Has this been resolved? I have this problem too. MobileMe created many duplicate categories (around 50-100). Some have events in them, some are empty. Do you have any duplicates? That can cause problems. I tried to go through them and delete the empty ones, but that is tedious work because the web app is so slow and the other apps wont list the events in the category, so I don't know if it's empty. Anyway, after many hours of work, iCloud re-duplicated them! I'm frustrated.
