Ok...thanks!  I read up on the Magic Trackpad.  If I order this where am I going to plug this into and what do I do with the Via Blue Tooth?  Thanks for your help....I'm in my 50's and trying to fix my mouse problem on my own.  My mouse just stopped moving.

I have the same issue. Mouse is not moving but click and gestures are ok. Have tried resetting SMC and PRAM. But problem still exists. Any help I from the experts?

    I am on Mountain Lion.

    Thanks in advance.

You can't do anything but change a new one from apple care center.

Thanks Taylor. Looks like I have to ring AppleCare and waste 30-45 mins on the phone listening to the music before I can get anyone to attend to me. Am not even sure they cover the Magic Mouse.

As long as your mouse is under warranty, apple will give you a new one.

For my case, I just simply go to the apple care center and they give me a new one.

Hope you can get the workable mouse soon! :)

Same problem here.  I'm stunned that so many people have the exact same issue and Apple has no solution, nor has issued a recall for this POS

I scheduled a call with Apple Support Centre. They called back during my preferred timing. So that was nice.

I informed them of the problem I was facing, they asked whether I have try it on another mac, whether I have done resetting of the SMC and PRAM, which I did and they all did not work. Since I bought the AppleCare when I bought my iMac, my magic mouse is covered under my iMac. They logged my call and give me an ID and advised me to go to an Apple Authorised Repair Centre and give them my ID for a 1 to 1 magic mouse replacement. They did and my problem is solved.

I can concluded that its the issue with the mouse hardware.

During the time without my magic mouse I plugged in a normal mouse and it works fine (of course without the gesture).

I hope this thread will save many people countless of hours (like I have) trying to figure out whats wrong with their mouse when the mouse is not tracking but everything else like click and gestures are working fine.

Thanks Taylor for the initial response.

Had the same problem. Here's the process I went through to getting it working again:

    1. Tried fresh batteries. Clicks worked, but no mouse tracking.
    2. Another set of fresh batteries. The same result.
    3. Tried removing and re-adding the mouse in the Bluetooth Preferences. No difference.
    4. Found a blog post that suggested cleaning the battery contacts. Mine looked nice and shiny, but I scrubbed them anyway. Still no good.
    5. Went into Bluetooth preferences, highlighted the mouse then under the gear menu, clicked "Update Services" then "Monitor Connection RSSI". Monitor Connection RSSI opened a new window with a graph. It took a few seconds for it to start plotting data, but as soon as it did, the mouse began working correctly.

Because I clicked "Update Services" and "Monitor Connection RSSI" within a few seconds, I can't say which one (if either) worked, but my mouse is working again.

If within 1 year of purchase, take it to Apple store and they will replace it free.  I tried to get them to replace mine with the trackpad, which is the exact same price, but the "genius" refused to see the logic of that solution and insisted on being a slave to policy and would only replace it with another mouse just like it.  I figure I'll probably end up doing this every time one of these things go bad until they stop making it.

Delete the extension named USBOverdrive.kext in the extensions folder under \System\Library\Extensions. Restart the computer and it work.
