I use iChat and signed up in iChat with my me.com address.  My buddy uses AIM.  How do I change my name that shows up on their AIM client?  Thanks!!

    Hi,

The only bit that passes between you and your Buddy is your Screen Name.

However AIM does allow for a "Display Name" to be seen instead.

There are issues with this as it does not work for @me.com names issued by the iCloud registration process.

iCloud changes the way that the AIM servers can "See" the password for your @me.com name

iChat or Messages beta also logs on to me.com and this allows the AIM servers the access they need to use the password.

It means an iCloud issues name will not work in iChat 5 or earlier and your cannot make use of the AIM Settings page

If your Apple ID is older and from the MobileMe time then login on this page.

Go to Manage Your Account.  Chose to Edit your Display name.

    NOTES

For your Buddies you can add their Screen Name to your Buddy List. iChat allows you to Add the First Name and Last Name details and this creates an entry in your Address Book

They will then appear in the Buddy List as those First name, Last name.

Alternatively you can add their Screen Name to their Existing Address Book "Card" and then drag it to iChat.

Your Buddy may be able to do the same with the App they are using and their Address Book
