Jul 14, 2012 12:43 AM in response to joselskipperby Bimmer 7 Series,The Lion installed in your older Macbook Pro, which was an upgrade version is not the same as the Lion installed in your 2012 Macbook.
The one in your new Macbook was optimized for your model while the one you're installing was the retail version.
Some drivers might not be included which is why you're having issues installing it.
Why not use Migration Assistant to move or copy your files and apps over and not your OS.
I tried what you did on my late 2011 and it didn't work. Which is why I came to this conclusion.

Mac OS XI didn't have any problems when I used Time Machine in setting up my 2011 Lion model from a 2006 Snow Leopard back-up. It's strange that you're getting this error message. Why can't you use Migration Assistant? Same error message? Again, I've used it from ancient machines to new ones with no problems...

Migration Assistant does not "clone" the new mac. I did that out of frustration only to realize that it did not copy Quickbooks. It copied the Quickbooks app but it installed as a "new software" and not the accompanying database file.

Its not strange. I bought a late 2011 Macbook three months ago and I was able to use Time Machine at the initial setup process without a hitch--and everything was cloned as if I was using my older Mac. It is strange that I am unable to do the same with this latest Mac.

Migration Assistant did not copy my Quickbooks database and so the software installed as "new". My entire accounting records is in that database.
