I was able to download it, install it and get it to run in Safari without any issues. Here's my system configuration that I tested it on -
OS X 10.6.8
Of note it appears to install the plug-in via the /Library/Internet Plug-ins and not ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins. So making a new user won't rememdy the issue, at least for the purposes of troubleshooting. Have you tried Firefox? It says that is a supported browser.

I found out after reading at IkeaFans that the Ikea home planner hasn't been updated to support Lion, and that they are working on the issue. But ultimately it doesn't make a difference anyway, because Ikea only offers a Kitchen planner, PAX and Billy planners, and I need a planner that offers all of their products. (For a store that heavily markets itself as DIY, I'm really amazed that they don't have a planner that offers all of their products. Get on that Ikea!)
So I think I'll just learn Google Sketch Up! I found an iPhone App called "Measures" that allows you to overlay measurements of objects in pictures taken on your iPhone. So I'll use those two gizmo's and learn a little about drafting while I'm at it

Hello driotetgouche, in reply i suffered the same troubles as you described on my new Macbook Pro. I followed the suggestion of JasonFear by installing Firefox. With firefox the Ikea kitchen can be created. I have to further investigate the troubles with Safari. Does it already run at your side on either Safari or Firefox, let me know.
Kind regards Emile

I am having exactly the same problem I tried to open it with google chrome and also with firefox but its still the same issue-when you download the plugin it still asks you to drag it to the folder and then from there it doesnt work, so frustrating!
Any more ideas?

The problem in the initial post is exactly what I am now experiencing. It had been fine until yesterday for some reason so I tried the same remediers to no avail. I have now tried it in Firefov. Still no luck.
However one thing that I shall do when I next open my new Macbook Pro is to repair permissions .....

Well I have run repair permissions and it has made no difference in either Safari or Firefox ..... grrr

I would imagine too that IKEA does not have Technical Support ..... or do they?

HERE SHOULD BE YOUR SOLUTION:
Command+Space to bring up universal search, type in "Internet plug-ins"...
You may get multiple choices, one referencing OS-X Lion, perhaps one ref-ing your personal login...Choose one (I started with the main - OS X Lion - one)...it will open on your desktop...If you're like me (or like the Droitetgouche), you've already tried to install it, and it gave you all that crap about "can't be modified"...etc...So delete any of those plug-ins (there may be a few, depending how many installs you've tried), then right-click the "Internet Plug-ins" folder and choose "get info"...I'm not sure why "D...che" (spelling ease) couldn't change permissions...maybe wasn't logged in as the admin?...but click the "lock" symbol in the bottom right corner, unlock it, change ALL permissions to Read & Write, then relock it. Then open the IKEA dmg again and drag the item into the folder and it should work no problem.
Then quit Safari, restart, and it should let you work.
IF it doesn't, try going back to your universal search and choosing a different "Internet Plug-ins" folder...(Also, if you've tried the install, and you don't find any IKEA dmg's in the "Internet Plug-Ins" folder, you're likely in the wrong folder).
Also, you may want to go back later and restrict the read/write permissions when you're done with IKEA.
It worked for me, let me know if it works for you.
