Jun 27, 2012 10:48 AM in response to CyberGuyPRby spr1,CyberGuy... yes, the device was wiped, and NOT restored. Setup as a new device. Same behavior.
We also removed and re-added the activesync components for the user account device connection on Office365 at the same time. No difference.
I am starting to believe that it is not the number of contacts, but the structure of the contacts the user has and the IOS device is tripping on it somehow during search. I wouldnt go so far as to say the contacts are 'corrupt' but there is something about them... old contacts that have been carried along from palm pilot to blackberry enterprise server and through multiple versions of Exchange. I wonder is there is some residual metadata or something that is at issue.
Speculating of course, but at this point its all I have.
Microsoft wants to sell their new phone, and Apple doesnt care about Exchange... neither one has any genuine interest in resolving this (it seems), and it is making me look bad.

Jun 27, 2012 9:22 PM in response to ugino_mtzby RST767,I have over 2000 contacts on outlook 365. I have an iphone 4S and the latest vesion of iPad.
Duplicates on both have been frustrating.
I have found that by NEVER editing contacts on the iphone (and always doing so on the computer), duplicates have been avoided for ten days.
Not so simple on ipad as a search seems also to cause duplicates as well as edits,so if an email recipient's name does not show up in the "to" box when I start to type, I don't send the email from the ipad. Of course, I don't edit on the ipad
These "solutions" seriously affect the utility of apple products.
With so many loyal Apple customers experiencing this problem, I wonder why Apple doesn't fix the problem.

Jun 28, 2012 8:56 AM in response to spr1by S12Barcelona,I have the same problem and have spoken with Apple in the past several times and they don't seem to be able to find a solution. I have to deactivate exchange contacts from my iphone on a regular basis to delete all duplicate contacts. At times I have 10 or 12 duplicates at a time. Wish Apple did something about this.

Jul 3, 2012 10:56 AM in response to S12Barcelonaby sheryl23,I have the same experience....very frustrating and I am very disappointed the tech support at Apple does not seem even to know that so many people are having this issue.

Jul 3, 2012 11:28 AM in response to ugino_mtzby DiveZen,Please file BUGS with Apple to help get this resolved.
You file your bug at http://bugreport.apple.com (you can duplicate to mine if you like #11389461)
You need to pull some your contacts crash log for the apple devs to look at....

Jul 10, 2012 10:47 AM in response to ugino_mtzby wdcbrucefan,I have similar problem. Contacts are duplicated on Outlook, IPad and Blackberry. Look forward to apple acknowledging and resolving this issue.

Jul 10, 2012 11:50 PM in response to wdcbrucefanby SouthernSkyGuy,Same problem - duplicate contacts on my iphone and ipad (but not on my windows PC in Outlook, which contiunues to work fine). The problem on Apple devices may have begun with Apple's latest iOS upgrade (but I'm not certain of this).
Because I edited many contacts before realizing there were duplications, I now have mutiple copies of many contacts that are EACH SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT. This is a disaster.
I tried manually deleting some duplicates but found that they were deleted from ALL DEVICES - those contacts are now unrecoverable. Another disaster.
Is Apple going to acknowledge the problem or do I have to dump the iPhone and buy a Windows phone, which works with Microsoft products?

Jul 11, 2012 12:27 AM in response to SouthernSkyGuyby clivebaxter,I have been working on this for months. The iOS upgrade to 5 from 4 produced the error.
Also, Microsoft server cannot sync with Apple's server and vice versa. You have to back up your contacts. (luckily I did by chance before all this started) then choose only one server. Hope this helps until iOS 6 comes out later this year.

Jul 16, 2012 9:35 AM in response to ugino_mtzby sheryl23,I have the same issue. Microsoft 365 and Apple seem to be unable to resolve this. Very frustrating. I just don't edit or search contacts on my devices anymore.

Jul 17, 2012 4:24 PM in response to sheryl23by Evasion3,Hello!
I could have find the solution for this big problem !!!!
In my case, the parameters of exchage were different in MS outlook and in my iphone.
The server that must be used is indicated in outlook web access. In OWA, select help icon and select "About". Then, you'll find the normal parameters for your applications.
In my case, the MS outlook of my computer was not the good one because I was migrated from BPOS to Office 365 and during this migration, the parameters of outlook were changed but not well...
I hope this could resolve the problem for you...
Best regard

Jul 18, 2012 4:30 AM in response to Vasiliy Ovchinnikovby LaurentBerox,Hi Vasily,
It's nice for you !
Did you change the name server only on your iPad to m.outlook.com ?
Or did you change for Microsoft Outlook too ?
Best regards,
Laurent

Jul 18, 2012 10:31 AM in response to LaurentBeroxby TechBrains_SF,It seems like these last 3 posts might be spam or somebody referring to a different problem. If somebody can clarify or test this, that would be great. I can't do so because it is 2 client CEO's that are experiencing this problem and both are a bit touchy about this problem and I don't want to work on it until it seems there is a promising solution.
If they are real and referring to the original problem, I am not clear if the fix is changing the server setting on the iphone from "pod###.outlook.com" to "m.outlook.com" or the other way around. I am pretty sure both of my clients are set to the "pod###.outlook.com" value.
