After my iPhone's power button quit working I called a local shop. They wanted $110 to replace the power button. I went to the Apple Store. They offered me a new replacement for $150 or an upgrade to the latest phone for regular prices.

The technician then showed me a way around the problem. Settings, General, Accessability, Assitive Touch.

Turning this on provides touch screen control of all the buttons on the iPhone. One catch. If you power the phone down, you must turn it on by connecting to power source.

This fix works fine and saved my lots of money.

Great, mine also stopped working. I guess, what happens is that the inner button breaks after some use.

I have apple warranty but I'm abroad for a business trip and will be available to go to an apple store in 20 days!!

    Apple, you have failed me.

Same problem, Apple has turned a deaf ear to us, and at ONLY 4 days out of warranty.  We even tried to buy the warranty, but they said NO.

I just got off the phone with Verizon who just shipped me a Certified Used from Apple because my lock button wasnt working. I do have an extended warrenty with Verizon (10 bucks a month, but in a time like this, it finally became worth it) so if you have asurion with Verizon, don't worry about Apple, just call Verizon and if you have no abuse or water damage, they will replace the phone, free of charge

Sorry this is such a delayed reply, but I noticed the Albany mention in your post and am going to that store tomorrow,  any chance you remember the name of the person who helped you? Really don't wanna shell out the money for phone that's hardly a year old.

Add me to this list! I was traveling in the car texting and the next thing I know, my button is jammed.

I've owned 4 iPod touchs, 2 iPod Nanos, 2 iPads and an iMac. You'd think with such a background, that they'd honor such a common problem to be fixed free (or even discounted) of charge. That's fine. My iBroke will take my $49.99 to have it fixed.

It would be nice if Apple would take of this issue with the stuck power button instead of suing everyone. Plus how about using the Billions in the Bank to help out the loyal consumer for a know problem that they caused.

My iphone 4 is about a year old, and the power button got stuck a few days ago. I went to the Bell store where I bought the phone - and one again, I was very disappointed with my experience there. I was told there was nothing they could do to help me and to call Customer Support. Before doing so, I decided to get online and do some research about the issue with my iPhone and was I ever surprised to find out that there are so many other people who have experienced and are still experiencing the same problem. I think Apple should be responsible for fixing this since it sounds like a defect on their part. I could understand if there were only a few people who experienced this...but come on...Most of us work hard and try to save up to buy their products, and like most people I cannot afford to buy a replacement phone when the problem was not caused by me. I live in a small town and work alot so I cant travel between 2-3 hours to the nearest Apple Centre...and for sure cant afford to buy a new phone when the only thing wrong with it is the stuck button.

So I guess for now - unless Apple has a recall or replaces the phone for free  - I will try to work around the problem by the using the "Assisitive Touch" method under Generel Settings!

    this *****...LOL

I tried using the assistive touch feature that everyone else has mentioned but when I turn it on, nothing happens, no transparent button.  My lock button has broken and I need a way to lock my phone since I cant get to the apple store until this weekend to buy an out of warranty replacement.  I tried turning on the triple home button press to activate the assistive touch but that also doesnt work.  Do I need to do a software restore in order to fix the problem?

You should still be under the 12 month warranty.  The 4S hasnt been out a year yet.
