One of our customers use MacBook Pro's on a large scale. Our printservers are all Windows 2003 and 2008 R2 servers.
The Mac-users are asking for the ability to print on the printers shared by those servers. I already managed to print to the printers directly by configuring their IP, but since we use a account based payment system, it is necessary to print to the queues on the printservers.
Previous versions of Mac OSX worked like a charm when doing so, but since Lion came along, we had nothing but problems. In the previous versions we made a Windows type connection with the URL smb://[FQDN servername]/[printername] and fill in the credentials used in the Active Directory.
When I do the exact same thing on Lion it asks for the credentials as soon as something is printed, but in the end it doesn't do a thing. No task is sent to the queue whatsoever. The only thing I can find in the logs is the error: PrinterProxy: Error in submitPrintJob 4294936404.
I've searched for quite some time now and tried everything that was suggested. This includes:
- adding the port 445, 9100, 139 to the URL
- adding the username and password tot the URL
- using LPD is out of the question due to the need of authentication
- configuring all of the above in the CUPS site (http://localhost:631)
- clearing the Keychain of all references to the network
I'm out of idea's...
