Hi ,

This thread refers back to a recent post called "onboard firewire fired." I accepted as the correct answer Japamacs input and  references to solving the problem by trashing the Apple IO kexts in that link. Unfortunately, that  caused my Sonnet Tango 800/USB Combo PCI Express card to lose its firewire drivers(though not its USB). Apparently, Sonnet is piggybacking on one more more of the apple IO kexts. So I will reopen the question for discussion. Does anyone have any idea as to which are the most likely kexts to bring the Sonnet card back online though I would still like to disable the onboard thrashing the kernel keep going through looking for a dead component? I am also posting a similar question to Sonnet support and, if they reply definitively, I will update this myself.

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

Also, open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem for clues.

Sonnet strikes again. I never had luck with their combo cards.

Seems odd that PCI is pulling all the kexts. Likely only one or two, but which? PCI IO is a whole different set of kexts.......

Did you try the Terminal method to kill onboard FW?

    Thanks for the update.

Let us know if leaving the two and trashing the others works.
