Q: Retina MBP - visual glitches after returning from sleep

running into the same issue when the MacBook Pro Retina returns from sleep.  Opened a radar bug and heading to the genius bar later today. Read somewhere that this issue is not seen when running Mountain Lion, but have yet to try it.

i'm using lion 10.7.4. it appeared something like between 2 and 3 weeks ago. my screen goes like this on wake from sleep, and when in that mode, that shows all open windows for the active application (i use a gesture that i activated for the touchpad: swipe down with 3 finges)

So here is my update.

It has been 2 weeks and I have had ZERO issues with graphical artifacts or UI corruption.

I can honestly say that the issue is with OS X's retina scaling process on legacy applications that are FULLY scaled.

Apps with *some* elements scaled that have NO issue after a week: DEVONthink, Xcode

3rd party apps with *FULL* scaling that have had issues on my machine are: Text Wrangler, Steam, Microsoft Office, and Xee

I honestly think this issue is with Apple. They need to fix the scaling mechanism. It obviously corrupts the graphics renderer in conjunction with power saving mode...

Guys,

Run the software update.  There's a patch that was just released that should fix this

It's a 1.5 GB update, so it's pretty big. I don't know why people haven't discussed this update.

My computer works perfectly. Thank God or maybe thank the update

Can you post the name of the update? When was it released? That kind of info so that we can pass it along... I suppose it was delivered as a standard software update release?

I had already updated so I didn't get to snap a screen shot.

The issue is there , I have updated my macbook pro with the latest updates long time ago , spoke to 2nd/3rd line engineering at apple , some of them seems to be aware of the problem but can't really admit it.

I am sure now this is a driver issue that will hopefully get sorted .....however there are other problems such as Windows 7 and battlefield 3  if you are into gaming .....(Game crashes because of instable drivers )

This is my 2nd Retina now and already been agreed to return it and get refund.

You say "a long time ago" - someone just posted last night of a new 1.14GB software update for mid-2012 machines... have you tried that one?

I installed this update last week and I have STILL been consistently having the display freeze/flicker/window-drag problems upon coming out of Display Sleep, especially bad when a Thunderbolt device is attached like an external display, hard drive or ethernet adapter.  However, it still happens when a Thunderbolt device is not attached.

Also, the other big hitting update in that Software Update list is USB3.0 bug fixes.  And, I can confidently say that I still have USB3.0 problems with sporadic drive disconnects while copying large files.

On the bright side, I purchased a Buffalo Thunderbolt External 1TB hard drive from OWC over the weekend and copying large files as well as SuperDuper cloning my entire hard drive (>500GB of data) has gone without a hitch.  MUCH BETTER THAN the USB3.0 flakeyness on rMBPs. 

So, for those actually keeping their trouble-ridden Retina MBPs, like me, who need to use large external hard drives for backups and extra storage, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting a Buffalo Thunderbolt External 1TB Hard Drive from OWC.  It's suprisingly affordable in the 200+ range and has been widely reviewed and praised across the internet.

As I said before, the way I have alleviated the display problems upon display sleep resume by configuring my Energy Saver settings to make Display Sleep NEVER.

P.S. Thanks for spreading the news about the Software Update, as it does have specific fixes for display and USB3.0 problems, the most glaring and pervasive glitches with Retina MBPs....however, the software updates have not fixed my display or USB3.0 problems :-)

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1542  That update is from a week ago.  I installed it on the 12th and still had issues.

i installed the update right away as well - display problems persist.  I'm hoping that Tucker1988 is right that ML (mountain lion) that is set to come out shortly alleviates all this.
