Q: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RESTORE APPLE (GEN 1) ?

My Apple TV (Gen 1) was playing up and couldn't access all my library from my Mac ( couldn't locate all my event photos) - so I decided to restore it to factory settings.  Prior to this, I was unable to update it, which was another reason I decided to restore it to factory settings.  It has gone through the process of updating and installing 2 updates, turned itself on and off a few times,  but now the light on the box is flashing and I have an Apple on my TV - It has been like this for ages - not sure if it has frozen?

How long should I leave it before I turn it off??

Thanks in advance.

Thanks again, but unfortunately no good.

The device list does not show and I hovered the mouse in the source list but nothing detected.

I also plugged USB straight into Mac and still nothing. (That was all that was plugged into ATV)

Have a call scheduled from Apple tonight - so fingers crossed!

If it still doesn't show after all that, I suspect it may need to go back. The only concern I have is the cable you used, it shouldn't be tight and I wonder if you are using the right one. I note you were worried about not having a receipt, have you registered the product here.

The cable I have is a tiny one that fits a fuji camera - all the other USB's I have are too big - so it must be the right one??

I hadn't registered it - but will do so now!!

Under the express Lane - it requested serial number and it was accepted??  Hopefully from that, they will accept my enquiry?

    I will keep you informed.

Many thanks for all your suggestions, you've been really helpful.

Spoke to Apple this evening - he suggested I plug in the micro USB like you suggested -only this time the light on the ATV flashed on and off.  He told me to go to about this Mac, USB to see if it was recognised - unfortunately it wasn't ;o(

It will be returned to Apple for either repair or replacement!!

Once again Winston_Churchill - many thanks for your suggestions, you were very helpful ;o)

I hope you had your issue fixed by now!

i dont think the USB cable that you used is the right one! the one that comes with Fuji cameras is defferent from what you should be looking for.

i had the same issue before and i have the exact cable you mentioned, but i had to by the Mico USB cable sepratly.

you may google the cable's image to see the defference from yours and what you should be looking for.

sorry if this reply is late, but i hope you already had your problem fixed.
