Q: My iPod 5th generation heated up one night, the light flashed or twitched and went black.. i NEED to get this thing running again . Help???

One night i was just listening to my iPod while it was charging. I had to go brush my teeth so i unplugged it from the charger and went to go to the bathroom. By the time i got halfway to the bathroom it flashed or something and went black. After a few minutes of messing with it, a symbol came up of an iPod with a sad face and a exclamation symbol next to it in a caution sign... I'm freaking out!!! My mom got me this with the little money she had... she's gonna be so upset if she found out i broke it. I NEED to FIX this!!!!!!! Please?
