Q: Mac Pro 1.1 - 2 x 2.66 - OS 10.7.4 - Won't connect via wifi

Mac Pro 1.1 - 2 x 2.66 - OS 10.7.4 - Won't connect via wifi.

Was working prior to moving to a new location which uses a different router. This router is working fine with other Mac's, PC's, Phones (Blackberry/iPhone) and TV's.

Connection to the router via Ethernet is OK. The (new) router is a Huawei HG532 router (TalkTalk). Mac Pro "sees" the SSID and advises good signal strength (in the menu icon) but won't authenticate despite the CORRECT WPA2 code.

I'm aware that there is a lot of chatter re similar wifi problems on the net ref MacBookPro but any ideas / suggestions have failed to resolve the problem.

Spoke with TalkTalk and they advised that they would change the router since Huawei router is apparently limited to the number of devices that it can connect to. I have in the order of 9 devices that are able to log in but not all of these are actually live at the same time. Incidentally the number of devices limit in the advanced tab of the router was set at 32. Changing this didn't make any difference.

Any ideas?? Its obviously a Mac Airport / Huawei issue and I don't buy the limited number of clients using the router since the other devices work fine.

My current solution is half Ethernet, half WiFi.

Rather than having a long Ethernet cable across the floor, thru doors etc I am connected via a miniature Client WiFi Router (fabulous bit of kit for circa £15!) which is then connected to the Mac via Ethernet. I purchase this Client Router so as to connect my Ethernet only Smart TV's to the net rather than paying ridiculous amount for proprietary dongles (Panasonic / Sony etc). It works totally automatically only requiring a WPS signal from the router during initial setup.

I await your sagely comments.

The new router has not resolved the problem.

So this appears to be something to do with the Airport Express card.

How can it work at one location but not another?

Aerial...but this doesn't agree with the signal strength icon.

    Most frustrating.

next step to see if there is an express card firmware update.

    NOT RESOLVED

I was having the same problem with my Huawei router (no ip on wifi). Here's the fix

    1. Go to Settings

    2. Go to Network

    3. Select WiFi in the right hand column/pane

    4. Click advanced

    5. Under WiFi tab, under Preferred Networks, move Huawei network name to near top of list.

    Then click ok, click apply.

    Then it should work
