When I double-click on the icon at the bottom of a column, expecting it to "Right-SIze" the column, so that it will show all full file names to length of the longest one in the group, instead the opposite happens.  The column shrinks to it's minimum size!  If I right-click and choose Right Size All Columns, then they all shrink instead of grow.  I can't find a setting or preference to change this, but for some reason, I'm getting the opposite effect desired.  Thank you.

So, I discovered a kind of a fix, but I still think there may be a bit of a bug here.  I had chosen the "Arrange" by "Kind" option in my columns.  When this is chosen, the columns did not size correctly.  Arranging by anything else had the same effect.  However, when I went back to Arranging by "None" so that all the file types and folders in any column were grouped all together - then the column sizing worked properly.  So, I cannot use "Arrange" if I want to be able to Right-Size my columns.  Think this is a bug?  Thank you.

I have the same bug, and so do others by the looks of it.

It's annoying as I mostly sort by Date Modified, as I am constantly updating documents, and this is one of the options which seems to have this problem.

I recently did a clean install of Lion 10.7.3 and checked it before and after doing updates and system restore, but this problem remained.  I hope they fix in the next update, otherwise it probably won't get fixed before Mountain Lion arrives.

Yep...I have the same issue (and found the same results that howardp63 notes and ryleylamarsh is right it is annoying as !**@#*!.  More annoying that Apple hasn't heeded putting the auto Right-Size option in yet.  I guess I don't understand how Apple engineers access their files.  Argh.

A fix that seems to work for me:

Holding Opt and dragging the column width to whatever size. This resizes all columns equally, and keeps them that way (try jumping around finder windows and you should see that they're all the same size) and as an added bonus, double clicking the column edges for "right size" begins to work again.

Note: I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.2

UPDATE: Hmm, the double clicking to "right size" has stopped working, but Opt+Dragging the columns still keeps them large.
