This might be the same bug that is affecting the iPhone using Sound Check. If so, it's up to Apple to fix which may not be till the new iPod is released whenever that may be. If this is a bug, it likely won't be foxed on the current Nanos.

What bug using Sound Check on the iPhone? And are you sure the OP has even tried Sound Check?

Yes there are. This one is about how sound check doesn't work. I made a reply in it last week.

It doesn't on my 3GS and 4S. Makes the volumd vey very low.

Sound Check tends to do that with certain types of music. Not a bug, just very difficult to write an effective application to automatically ride over gain. It works best if you have some very old recording with low gain/high compression versus very recent songs. It does work but I generally don't use it.

The difference when activating sound check on my current generation Classic and Sound Check on my iPhones is like night and day. Same songs on the Classic play like they should and I can not turn the volume all the way up. On the iPhones, volume turned up on the same song isn't loud enough at all, it;s like half the volume. I gotta call that a bug.

You did try turning on sound check in settings?  You mentioned that you follwed the instructions on how to equalize the volume, this is how.

Well, the only other thing that you can do is to go into iTunes and manually adjust the volume for each track by right clicking on each track and selecting get info. On the popup, select the options tab and then lower the volume.
