The Apple chargers don't work well at all, if at all, and especially not with any extension USB cables.

This is what I've been using for months, and it works fantastically.  It's a hard wired cable to the wall wart with the iPad dock connector at the end.  And it's super cheap.  You'll be thrilled with it.  Trust me.

The above link doesn't work for some reason.  Try this one,  if this doesn't work, go to Monoprice.com and search for product ID 7865?

Something strange is going on.  I put a period after 7865, not a question mark as shown above.  I think this forum is altering URLs and Maybe other bits of text.

What the ****!!!  Seriously?  I typed the word "maybe" above and it was not capitalized.  Forum fixers, do your jobs please and address this!

Apple iPad chargers work perfectly for me. I have two of them.

Perhaps you confused a lower-wattage iPhone charger with an iPad charger.

I've had no problem using the Apple iPad chargers with 3rd-party long cables, either.

That's a complete lie.  Prove to me with a video that you can use a 10 or 15 foot USB extension cable with the Apple charger that comes with the iPad 3 and keep it charging while using it.  You can't.  It will only charge slowly at best when it's off and not charge at all when in use.  It did work fine with the iPad 2, however.  The Monoprice.com one works great with the new iPad and you can charge while using which is the only adapter I know of that will do that.

I know you are a hater to everyone who posts on these forums with problems with their new iPads.  But now you are blantantly telling lies, otherwise prove them.  I haven't posted here in months because of you and your group of thugs, but I get email updates and while I don't read every one, I read most and I've seen how you abuse everyone.  Get a life, dude.  Do you have nothing better to do than post on these forums everyday?  My iPad has problems and you attacked me for it.  But I got over it because the iPad is just an iPad and there are more important things in life.  All you do is troll in the overheating thread, and who knows how many other threads you actually post in.  Do you sit in your bedroom all day and wait anxiously for someone to post so you can just troll them?  It seems like you do it at all hours of the day, too!  Get a life, seriously.  You need one.  My email inbox gets filled with your trolling on a daily basis.  Give it a rest and go out in the real world, maybe find some friends, maybe get to first base.  Do you have any idea the number of people that probably don't post here because of you?  Why would they want to purposely be tortured by your constant anger and aggression?  This forum is for people to share their problems, not be attacked by Apple loyalists.

To those people out there reading this, don't be afraid to post your issues with the new iPad.  We know they exist.  Kim knows they exist.  He is just a troll looking to detract you from posting because he is probably paid to do so, or is just a truly, lonely soul.  Don't let him get to you.  Feel free to post your issues.  There are decent people here that are listening and will be receptive to your problems, and maybe offer assistance.  Filter out the noise.  Filter out Kim and other trolls like him.  I haven't posted in months because I have nothing more to discuss.  I have already shared my issues in this thread and the overheating thread. But there are many of you that are afraid to post when you shouldn't be, and the only way Apple will address these problems is of they hear from masses of you.  It can't be left up to a small number of us.  Like I've said before, even the Apple reps at the stores are aware of the problems because all the units on display there at two stores I went to were defective.  One Apple rep I dealt with had exchanged his.  Unfortunately the heat issue is one that nothing can be done about to my knowledge.  I went through three of them.  But the charging issue is solvable with the solution I posted.  An $8.76 wall wart adapter from Monoprice.com.  If you have charging issues, get one.  Don't let people like Kim tell you you're crazy or that the iPad has no problems.

That's all I have to say, and it will likely be months before I post again.  Of course Kim things many of us are the same person but if he had any smarts whatsoever he could simply ask the mods to compare everyone's IP addresses and delete the duplicate accounts.  How could one even have a duplicate account?  Your Apple ID is universal across all your devices.

Anyway, just filter out the noise people.  Filter out the noise and feel free to post.

    tl;dr

Around 20 million iPad 3s have been sold, but somehow only a handful of people like yourself figured out that "Apple chargers don't work well at all, if at all." You've scooped the entire tech press, too. And you call people who disagree with you, "liars." Hmmm...

I guess you're still sore about being outed as a troll on the other thread, but still -- wow…

My suggestion: try taking a walk around the block next time. That will make you feel better, too -- but you'll avoid carpal tunnel syndrome.

Millions of Toyota Camry's were recalled, too, brainiac.  No problems there either I suppose, right?  Just because an iPad won't kill you, doesn't mean it isn't defective and most people will go on using it as if nothing's wrong because they don't notice or are too ignorant.  99.99% of the world believes in God.  That doesn't mean there is one.  Once again your logic is illogical and irrational.

See, I told the forum you are always waiting to post, anytime of day or night.  You have no life, dude.  All you have is your trolling.  Come to my city, I'll buy you lunch and get your mind out of the troll gutter.  Seriously, step away from the keyboard, man.  You're ridiculously addicted.

Oh, and why then won't you prove that your charger works?  Take a video and prove it.  For a computer addict like yourself that shouldn't be too hard but instead you'd rather resort to trolling.  Until you can prove what you say, you're a liar.  Unless of course all the iPad chargers at the stores I went to and the ones shipped to me were defective, as were the ones of my friends and the posters here.  Extension cords with the Apple charger will not allow charging while in use, it's that simple, otherwise the charge icon would be on but it's not.  Only with the Monoprice charger is it on.

Time to filter out the noise once again.  These lonely computer addict trolls have lots of practice.

Compare your word count to mine. Hmmm...

Self-reflection is not your strong suit, is it?

I think my new iPad 3 may be defective. It takes about 8 to 9 hrs to charge fully & when I use it on & off to surf the web, watch videos, play games, etc. it lasts about 7 to 8 hours. Is that what its supposed to last? I always have the screen set to 50% brightness, push notifications off, when I dont need wifi I turn it off, and I never have more than 1 app open. Any suggestions on whether or not it may be defective?

    Serial number: DMPHHEQ3DVD2

    Name: iPad 3

I have read all of the discussion about this problem down to Bellatone's link. Here is my information about the iPad 3 I bought at Sam's Club, Denton, Texas for my huband on Father's Day, 2012.

By the way, both Apple techs I saw this week at the Southlake, Texas Apple Store said it does not matter which USB cord you use with the 10V iPad plugin transformer.

IT DOES MATTER! according to the discussion posts I have read. The 10V calbe/cord is slightly thicker than my iPhone 4 cable/cord. In my opinion, make sure you have the correct iPad cord/cable that came with your iPad.

Yes you are right... I have a knock-off cable that will charge the iphone BUT it will not charge the iPad 3 faster than a very slow trickle

This is my third iPad, and the fifth in our home. I love the unit and, since purchasing my first one, use it for just about everything. That said, if Apple doesn't come up with a fix for this charging issue, I may have to look elsewhere for my tablet fix. As has been pointed out here, by several people, I can't even use the iPad while its plugged in as the charger can't keep up to the power draw! Oops! Shame on you Apple! You have to get better results from your beta testers, plain and simple. Just FYI, my unit is plugged in right now and, since I started composing this post, has lost 4 percentage points in power! I don't know how many times I've had to stop using the thing and let it charge up, while I've been on full time power!!! Not acceptable or a unit in this price range!

Dear wade - you really have to check your setup - my ipad 3 has no such problem - with full brightness it does indeed not charge - however, on the same full brightness it looses nowhere near as much % as yours when on battery - ie, I lose about 25-35% on a 2 hour ebook read on full brightness.

Note that US chargers seem to be less efficient that eu ones ... At least that's what I've noticed (people using chargers off of 220+ V seem to have fewer problems). Seems hard to believe the charger can't output 2A whatever the voltage though ...
