Q: I dont get the option of disk utility when starting from the installation. Just the option of erasing everything.

I have disk problems. Disk utility said to start from installation disk. I get choice of language and then it's straight tO install

Mini Mac, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

You choose Disk Utility from the menu.

Keep your eyes on the top of the screen as you progress through the very early stages.

At some point a menu bar appears from which you can select Disk Utility.
