Q: Facetime Connection Problem

I have a Macbook Pro an iPad and an iPhone and in Hong Long they all worked with Facetime.  I am now in Thailand and only the iPhone will connect via Facetime.  I have checked all the settings and cannot resolve this issue.  Help please.

iPad 2, iOS 5.1.1

    Bernard,

Do you have reliable wi fi service where you are currently located.  Your Mac book and i pad are strictly dependent on wi fi to communicate via Facetime.

Your iphone can use the cellular network also, this may be the clue as to why you are experiencing the problem you described.

    Bernard,

I forgot to mention that you can connect your Macbook pro to your isp via ethernet cable if it turns out that you have a wifi issue.

Thank you for your reply.  I have a very strong WiFi signal on all units and can connect to the internet from each unit as well.  But, even though all units are connected to WiFi it is only the iPhone that will connect to FaceTime.

I also have this problem. I live in Thailand, have MACBOOK Air OS X 10.7.4. It worked perfectly fine until today. I could not make a call then I tried to turn facetime off. Since then I could not activate it at all. I spent over 8 hours to tired every possibilities to fix it i.e keychain thing, time & date set up, hosts file, perference...it did not work. Last option was erase & restore LION on my mac and hoped that it would work but IT NOT!!!

I have a suspicion that if one has 3 units like iPad, iPhone and Macbook then you need a different email address for each unit to work on FaceTime.  The reason I say this is that when I try and use " find my phone" the Iphone is the only unit that shows up even though the other two are in te same room and connected to Wifi.

    Bernard,

Oh yes!  One of my daughters has an iphone and an i pad on her Facetime network.  She uses her phone number for the iphone, and a speparate e-mail address for her ipad. But you did mention that all three worked in Hong Long, which made me think that you already had separate identifiers on each one already.  So I think your problem will be solved.

I had the same problem with facetime this morning and i called apple support, they said they have an issue with their server and to try again in 24 to 48 hours. they're working on a fix.

Now it works! I think the server went down. But what a relief! Now IT WORKS AGAIN!
