I'll tell you how to keep iOS from crashing occasionally as soon as you tell me how to keep a Windows PC from crashing occasionally.

One way that usually works, however, is to actually turn the phone off periodically (hold the SLEEP button until a "Slide to Power Off" message appears). Once a week would probably suffice.

Hello, i used to be a Blackberry user and the iPhone 4s was my 1st iPhone ever. I should mention that Apple Rules but unfortunately, in a sudden my phone turned off and never on again. I tried to reset it and all the stuff/hints/tricks that a person can do but with no luck. I bought my iPhone from USA directly from the apple store online, not even from a 3rd party store. Why should a problem like this happen? Knowing that the phone wasn't connected to the charger when it turned off, the battery was well and the phone didn't fall from my hand or even scratched, not even for once, it was brand new... I'm waiting the feedback from Apple now since the phone is with them since couple of days and they might need to replace it with a new one... Dunno... I just want my iPhone back

No stranger than rebooting Windows when it crashes or a Mac when you get a kernel panic.

Just experienced the same situation where the screen had gone black and the phone would not respond. Reading most all of the posts, I am happy to report that the recommended HOME + SLEEP button solution did the trick.  Noting that some people have tried this solution with no luck at all, reminded me that recently my Home Key Button stopped functioning - and without a functional Home Key one could be entirely out of luck attempting to reset their phone.

A simple fix for this situation is to insert the USB cable into the phone. Place your finger under the base of the cable end going into the phone and lift upward very gently, (very little pressure is required).  This procedure has for many brought life back to the Home Button.  It was my assumption that for those for whom the HOME + SLEEP solution didn't work, the Home Key itself was faulty as well.

Hope this may be of some help!

ok I will not even attempt to sound like I know what I'm talking about here lol BUT I had his same problem tonight with my 6 week old iPhone 4s and FREAKED out... found my way to this thread and tried all these tricks, and sorry to say, none worked! Made life twice as bad as my Dell All In One bit the dust just 24 hours ago so by this point I figure either God or electronics or both, hate me for sure...tried anything and everything I could think of on and off for a couple hours and had resigned myself to having to make the 40 minute trip to Verizon tomorrow...last ditch, don't know why I tried it, or why on Gods green earth it would have anything at all to o with it, but...I flipped the switch above the vol up button on the left side? IT WORKED!!!!! Sanity is restored!! Thank God too, since I have no comp my phone is my lifeline to my son, serving in Afghanistan, and 5 minutes after my phone turned on? He sent me a picture to my email of him standing in front of the base sign, getting ready to leave the base for the last time ever!! My son is coming home!! (can you tell I just got the news? lol) I wouldn't know this though if my phone hadn't turned on by that little switch, so I had to share!!!

Today I went to the store and my phone was working just fine.  I put it in my pocket for a couple of minutes and took it out and it had gone completely blank.  My power/lock button has currently gone out.  I have tried to hook it up to the computer and the wall but nothing.  Someone please help!
