Jul 25, 2012 9:57 AM in response to ChippyDeluxeby FishComputer,Too bad, your computer is four years old, about the time when computers need to be refreshed. Sell it, and buy a new one, or put up with its lack of support. It is too old.

Only in Apple's ecosystem.

Jul 25, 2012 11:28 AM in response to FishComputerby KarlHart,I have a MacBook air manufactured in October 2008 (That seems like late 2008 to me) and I still cannot get Mountain Lion to download. So does this mean even if it's in Apples remit for availability, it isn't really?
I'm confused, I moved to Mac because I was under the impression they didn't mess you around with all the same nonsense as Microsoft.

Most likely, it isn't.
According to this chart, Late 2008 MBAs were introduced in November 2008.

Jul 25, 2012 12:34 PM in response to FishComputerby andysanders,I have sent my feedback to Apple http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Here is what I reported to them:
Why is a 4 year old computer not supported by the new Mountain Lion?!
This is not the 90's where OS and application features took a massive jump with every new piece of hardware. Nothing much has changed in years, so word processing, browsing the internet, etc, work just as well on a 4 year old piece of kit as they do on new kit. I'm not sure exactly what new features in Mountain Lion are forcing me to stay with Lion, but I am sure it's got very little real end user value. Certainly not worth £1,000 to acquire.
Unless this is rectified, you can see my money going elsewhere. And before you think you don't get money from me, the apple ecosystem convinced me to get a time machine, an iPhone and an iPad, so you've had plenty of money from me, even if my MacBook has not been upgraded. No Mac in my home means my next upgrades to those other devices will be a very different consideration. And, though I am only one person complaining, I am sure that I am not the only person who is concerned about this.
Many thanks,
Andy
Some of you will no doubt ask why I need the new OS if I'm just browsing and using word processing. I need it because I want to be able to do development and suspect that will become problematic, I want to make sure I get all the new security features and I want all of the valuable improvements of Mountain Lion. what I don't understand is what amazing new feature in mountain lion is preventing me from getting it on my perfectly usable MacBook.

Believe me Andy, you're not the only one concerned about this. I also sent Apple some feedback about this recently, as I'm sure many others have done. I even posted my thoughts about it on this forum, but the post was deleted within a few minutes because it contained "Discussion of Apple Policies, Procedures or Decisions". My suggestion... go and post your thoughts and concerns about this to every single article, blog & forum you can find out there on this topic (as I have already done) to get a wider discussion going outside of this forum, since this is not the proper place to discuss it.
