BTW I did try OPTION key and clicking purchases to get the "installed" button to change to "install" or "download" again.
This did not change anything.

Interesting - this seems to be the only mention I can find that's roughly similar to an issue I'm having.
I too had the first try to download Mountain Lion fail (around 70Mb completed). I *can* option click the "purchased" tab and set it re-downloading but it keeps failing around the 70Mb mark each time - even if I delete the old one, switch to wifi only, switch off my AV etc - it fails every single time.
I would like to run Mountain Lion, if at all possible...

Try again in a few hours. Servers are getting overwhelmed.

Thanks - that's what I figured too. :-)

I talked to the technical support at Apple and he couldn't figure it out either.
I keep seeing downloading finishes in a second and the button changes to "downloaded".
I see OS X Mountain Lion icon at Lauchpad with progress bar showing full and just hanging there.
I'm noticing after some minutes I see it silently completes downloading and 4.31 GB installer is put into Applications folder. Then it starts installation but I get the following error msg.
"This copy of the Install OS X Mountain Lion.app application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading."
I'm not so sure whether the downloaded installer is actually 4.31GB long file because downloading seems taking less than 10 minutes which I think is too short to download the whole thing even at my work with fast internet speed.
Any new ideas?

I waited the rest of the day and then tried again before leaving work (this iMac is my workstation there) - same problem.
When I got home, I fired up my "Mac Pro" Hackintosh and tried the same thing there - and it worked fine straight away.
This morning, back at work, its still failing so it's either something to do with the work internet feed, or this iMac.
I bought the Mountain Lion installer downloaded at home in on a hard disk this morning just in case.
Do you have another internet feed you could try?

Fantastic that it worked at home for you. =)
I've just tried the same process again connecting to wifi at work instead of ethernet.
It still fails with the same error msg.
It's strange because I didn't have any issue for Lion upgrade which I also did at work.
I'll try it at home tonight but it will take forever to download the installer -.-;;;
BTW, have you tried your installer downloaded from home on iMac at work?

*grin* Yeah - I was quite happy with that - at least shows it's not necessarily the Apple servers. (and it did take quite a lot longer at home ~10Mbps as opposed to 100Mbps at work!).
I haven't had a chance to try it at work yet, but aim to do it later on today so will report back here and let you know.

You need to delete the dmg that is installed in your Applications folder and then log out and back into your User.
Now go to MAS (mac app store) and then go to purchases, instead of "Downloaded" you should see "Download" download it again and try again with installations. The servers were a little wonky.
please send in feedback to apple to tell them that you had an issue downloading the installer from MAS.

I tried downloading over last night and installing it this morning at home.
NO trouble there!!!
It must have been my company's network causing the trouble. -.-;;;;
Anyways, thanks a lot for the suggestion and help, dude!

Hey - that's awesome - glad I could help!
I left my work iMac running a SuperDuper image of the sysvol last night so will likely upgrade next Monday.

Now up and running with Mountain Lion at work too.
