I downloaded Mountain Lion and was running the installation.  It froze with the screen saying "about one minute left".   That was 5 hours ago and it still is frozen with rainbow spinning wheel showing.  Any suggestions?

Mine is doing the same thing, but with 4 minutes remaining. Can't do a single thing. It has been almost 3 hours for me...

I was also thinking, since my screen dims after 5 or 10 minutes... surely the computer is still functioning in enabling that power saving mode, and is therefore not completely frozen?

I'm still extremely worried though as I don't have a backup... My HDD is 2TB so maybe that's why it's taking so long? Has anyone here got a HDD that size and installed Mountain Lion? How long did your's take?

Keep me posted with how your installation goes SokeJSS...

    Thanks

I'm very tempted to do that myself... Can you let me know as soon as anything happens? When it restarted did it simply go back to the screen that was there before hand?

Mine is doing that too. It is a late 2009 Mac Mini (yes it is one of the ones that can run Mountain Lion. I did upgrade it to 8GBs of RAM more than a year ago.

So did any of yours finish? What happened on the reboot for the person that turned it off and back on? Did it start from the beginning again or quickly jump back to one minute to go and get stuck again.

Mine has the original HDD in the Mini. I've unplugged everything except for power, ethernet cable, and monitors. All other hard drives and peripherials were disconnected before I started.

Cool. Then there is hope for mine.  I couldn't bring myself to just turn it off and back on until I got more info. I'll try turning it off and on when I get home tonight.

Unlike the other person, I do have a good full backup with TimeMachine and I know it is good as I restore my MineCraft saved games once in awhile when my characters dies.

Same problem on mid 2012 MBP, but when 12 min remaining. In my case the trackpad does not respond. I'm really upset and frustrated.
