Jul 28, 2012 12:58 PM in response to Rudolfensisby Rudolfensis,I installed the new firmware, and when I tried to set it up again, I got this message in the AirPort Utility (5.6):
Make sure your Apple Wi-Fi base station is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753) -
Jul 28, 2012 4:30 PM in response to Rudolfensisby Rudolfensis,I've also tried changing IPv6 settings of the Wi-Fi.

Jul 28, 2012 4:53 PM in response to Rudolfensisby Nathan Jones2,For clarity if anyone else is reading this thread, the -15000/6 errors are related to IPv6 being used by Mac OSX Lion and up for finding AirPlay. This is unlikely to be the default on some older Airports/Express units.
The setting needs to be changed in Airport Utility (and you need 5.6, NOT the default 6+ that comes with Lion). It is quite hard to find, but here's the link :-)
Go to Manual Setup, then advanced and set IPv6 Mode to Host. Press Update for the Airport to restart.
Rudolfensis, if this isn't working for you, I can only speculate that your airport either has not been updated, or that it is something to do with the way it is distributing IP addresses? The one I use for AirPlay is in Bridge mode.
Apple, we'd like our 'manual' and profiles settings back in Airport, please! :-) AU 6+ is, well, a bit silly - as is the current confusion having to download an older version of the software to update the device… AND that the software is hard to find.

Jul 28, 2012 5:18 PM in response to Rudolfensisby Rudolfensis,So I re-set it, the AP Express had a green light eventually, but it was taking FOREVER on this part, saying "Waiting for AirPort Express to restart...", even though it had already restarted and the light was solid green:
Then, after waiting so long, I get this error (-6753):
So now I can't even set it up properly...

Jul 28, 2012 5:27 PM in response to Rudolfensisby Nathan Jones2,Not sure what that error is, but…
Is your Airport plugged into the router via ethernet? Check that it is (in AU 5.6) using the right connection mode in:
Internet/Connect using
It's always better to set them up via ethernet too! :-)
If you still can't access the Airport, start over. Disconnect it from the power for 15 seconds or so, and restart it - use a paperclip or biro on reset button. My older Express flashes yellow three times, then starts with default settings and I can begin again.

I've completely reset it about 6 or 7 times today
I've tried with both the ethernet cable plugged in, and without.

Jul 28, 2012 7:54 PM in response to Rudolfensisby MadMacs0,I'm late to this party, but have a couple of comments.
My version of Airport Utility is 5.6.1.
The latest firmware update for AP Exp 802.11n 1st or 2nd Gen is 7.6.1, not 7.3.2 listed in the reference you gave above.
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1998 for both.

Jul 29, 2012 6:55 AM in response to MadMacs0by Rudolfensis,Ah, sorry forgot to mention that I have AP Exp 802.11g
I'm running Lion, so can't use 5.6.1, because that's for Leopard and SL? I thought 5.6 is for Lion?

I suspect that's the problem. I have one of those around here somewhere and may have time to test it out, but it may not be IPv6 capable. That document also says your firmware should be 6.3, is that what you now have?

According to that reference I gave you, 5.6.1 is for OS X 10.7.4 and above, but it's been working OK for me with Leopard.
Other references say you are correct, so I guess you should stick with 5.6 as 6.1 won't work with 802.11g base stations.

Jul 30, 2012 12:45 AM in response to Rudolfensisby MadMacs0,★HelpfulSo I pulled out my old 802.11g and had lots of problems trying to get it to work with AU 5.6.1, so had to reset to factory settings and use Ethernet cable. I verified that there is no way to do anything with IPv6 and although I can't find that documented anywhere it would appear that it's too old to support it.
If IPv6 is indeed a requirement for AirPlay with the new iTunes, then I'm afraid you'll have to purchase a newer Express or perhaps restore the old iTunes.
