You are supposed to be able to see and acknowledge it when logged in to an Admin account and it is supposed to go away.

In 10.6.8, there were some problems that kept some users from having good results with that approach. The work-around is complex.

You have to log in as a user named "root." Here's how to turn on the root user account...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528

While you're at it, turn of auto login, if you have it enabled. You can turn it back on later, if you want. Once you've done that, reboot your Mac, log in as "root" with the password that you entered earlier. Once it finishes rebooting, just click on OK when the Memory Slot Utility pops up again.

Now reboot again, and log in under your usual username. The Memory Slot Utility should be gone now. It's a good idea to go back like you did to "Enable Root User" and choose Disable this time. You can do lots of really bad things as root if you don't know what you're doing.

I had the same thing happen to me after upgrading my RAM from 3G to 16G.
