Hi, Each time I restart my computer the home page in Safari defaults back to www.apple.com.  I have dumped the .plst file and used disk utility to repair permissions.  I'm on OS10.6.8

Any suggestions please.

Have you reset your home page in Safari General preferences?

Does it remember other preferences? - change a few to test this.

    Where is Safari installed?

Try Reset on the Safari menu.

I use it every day. It will allow you to choose what to reset before you proceed. I use the following settings:

    1 - Quit Safari

    2 - Open Home folder

    3 - Open Library

4 - Locate the following and trash them

    ~/Library/Safari/LocalStorage

    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari

5 - Restart Safari and test.

    Good luck

What happens in other accounts on the same Mac? Try another account or Guest account?

Can I assume that you did try changing the home page preference in the other accounts?

Yes, it is most unlikely to be in Home folders if all accounts are affected.

In these cases the issue is likely to either a network/DNS issue or a problem with Safari. Since Safari will not remember other preferences I advise reinstalling it. Which version is it?

Have you tried other browsers such as Firefox?
