When I am typing an eMail, especially when replying to an eMail, the cursor suddenly disappears. In order to get the cursor to come back I have to save the message and close the message then reopen the message.

Has anyone experienced this problem? It is only since upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion that I have seen this problem.

Best regards,

Steve

I am replying to my own post with some additional information. I thought the program TotalFinder might be causing this issue but I've removed that now and am still noticing the cursor disappearing.

I have not seen this in TextEdit or any other programs but then I haven't been doing a lot of typing in the past three days, the time I've been running Mountain lion.

This is a major concern for me and although it could be a conflict with CopyPaste or some other useful program that I use constantly, I'm guessing that perhaps someone else is having the same issue.

Any and all comments would really be appreciated.

    Best regards,

I have it as well. Very annoying. I use e-mail constantly and it's slowing me down...

First time someone else seems to have the same basic operations problem I do.

I'm having exactly the same problem. No ideas what's causing it. I do use CopyPaste too though.

Yes, whenever I use Photoshop the curson disappears constantly.  I have to click on any area of the desktop to get it back.  Then it is back for a minute or two, and gone again.  It is very annoying!  This only started since I installed Mountain Lion a few days ago.  I hope there is a patch coming for this.  What I've learned: never be an early adapter on these new OS releases.  This in only one of many problems I've had.

Same here. Especially in Photoshop, but also starting to notice it in Mail as well.

    Eric, Pixeleyz, Marko and Onan,

Thanks for your replies and it seems there is a problem with ML OS 10.8----  I too use CopyPaste Pro, as well as DragThing, aLaunch, TextExpander, SugarSync, InstantShot!, Growl, MenucalendarClock, SlimBattery Monitor, BusyCal, Free Memory, Default Folder and other assistance shareware.  But I've used all of these for years and never had this problem.

I have MailTags 3.1.2 - and notice that the sidebar (5 rows of each eMail message) will be blurry and overlap sometimes and that Mailtags is not active.  I have to quit and restart MAIL and then all is OK - but that doesn't cure the "suddenly missing cursor" which can and does occur at anytime…  Nightmare

I also note that my FINDER windows don't stay set in Mountain Lion - not sure if this is related.  I'll do a separate post on this but when I set a Finder window with a picture and put the order of the 30 icons in the order I want, then set for snap-to-grid, when I restart my Mac the picture is gone and the sorting is by name i.e. it has completely resorted my manually sorted icons. I count on having these icons always in the same place so this is another nightmare for me.

Again I shall do a separate post on that issue.

I hope others can report back concerning the disappearing cursor.

Can anyone else report back and also indicate if this is still occuring and if a solution has been found?  Or a conflict??

    Thanks.

Still happening for me.  I suspect we'll have to wait for 10.8.1 for a fix.

I am only finding this problem in the Apple Mail program not in Textedit or Word or when typing Apple discussions on the web. What about you? I think you or someone mentioned it was also a problem with Photoshop, which I don't use.

The issue only occurs in Mail for me., as per thread title and earlier comments by me.

OK Thanks and please try this:

The next time you are in MAIL and the cursor disappears, RIGHT CLICK your mouse (or control-click or whatever you have set-up for a trackpad to get the "right-click" feature) somewhere in the text of the eMail message.

DOES YOUR CURSOR reappear?  Mine did!  But only tested that once -- any and all feedback appreciated.

    Best regards,

    I'm having the same problem.

I don't think this is related to a specific app. So far I've seen this problem in Safari, Stickies and Notes. I found some people saying they see this when they use the zoom feature of Accessibility, but in my case it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the zoom feature.

    POSSIBLE TEMPORARY SOLUTION FOR MAIL:

When my cursor disappears, I open a new eMail message and click in the message space.  The cursor is there and when I go back to the eMail I am creating, the cursor then reappears.  So for now, I am keeping a blank, new eMail window open and anytime my cursor disappears in the eMail on which I am working, I simply click into the message area of that new, blank eMail message and then back to my main message and the cursor is there. Sometimes I have to do this three or four times before completing a one or two page email message.  But at least I get my cursor back.

Please let me know if this works for you.

    Regards,

    Steve
