Jul 30, 2012 9:23 AM in response to Andy Edby rack0 tack0,Does the firewall on the Mac block the SMTP? I was wondering if you had a firewall setting setup in Lion that has been changed by the ML installation.

Jul 30, 2012 1:09 PM in response to rack0 tack0by Andy Ed,I've checked the firewall and even turned it off, but it makes no differences. I also went into disk utilities and repaired file permissions in case that might do something, but it didn't. It's very strange. O2 say it is definitely Apple's problem so I'm hoping they can sort it out quickly.

Jul 30, 2012 1:29 PM in response to Andy Edby rack0 tack0,Have you tried a different email client, Sparrow Lite is available free of charge in the App store. It may prove if it is Apples Mail that is faulty or something in the OS. Note the Lite version is Ad supported but that would not matter for testing.
I have not tried Sparrow, Apple Mail has always worked for me but it would be more information to give Apple on the feedback form http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Are there any error messages either in Mail or in the console logs?

Jul 30, 2012 1:38 PM in response to rack0 tack0by Andy Ed,I seem to have cracked it. I've discovered that the smtp port is a different setting to the incoming pop port and that you can get to the former by double clicking the failed connection when it comes up in the Connection Doctor. I've now set that to 25 and it is working again.

Jul 30, 2012 1:46 PM in response to Andy Edby rack0 tack0,Glad you fixed it, you can also setup the SMTP port in Mail preferences but if the Conection Doctor sorted it out for you that is all that matters.
I surprised that the ML install changed the SMTP port.

Aug 1, 2012 3:22 AM in response to Andy Edby a9ksystems,Mountain Lion has screwed my O2 mail up too. The port 25 trick didn't work for me.

Aug 1, 2012 3:31 AM in response to a9ksystemsby Andy Ed,Did you change the settings having run Connection Doctor? That was the only way that it worked for me. If you don't know how to get to that try sending an email using the smtp that is described as off-line, then it should come up. double click the problem account and then go to the port setting and change it to 25. hope it works.

Aug 1, 2012 3:34 AM in response to Andy Edby a9ksystems,Yep, been through connection doctor a few times. Set ports on auto, then manually 25, then 465, then 587 and still get the red light. Triple checked my O2 login details, lots of head scratching, then found lots of threads with people having the same issues. Luckily I have my own domains and can login through port 587 on my own web server but still a bizarre glitch in the ML update for O2/Apple to miss.

Aug 1, 2012 4:12 AM in response to a9ksystemsby Andy Ed,Is it just the outgoing smtp that's not working or is the incoming pop server out as well?
-
Aug 1, 2012 4:19 AM in response to Andy Edby a9ksystems,Don't use incoming POP. All my accounts are IMAP on my domains. Just always used the O2 SMTP on port 25 for outgoing as that's the way they like it.

Aug 1, 2012 11:29 PM in response to Andy Edby John Caradimas,Well, I installed ML last week and I didn't notice any issues with Mail, until I tried to upgrade my Lion seerver to ML server (or OS-X Server as they call it now, I think). SMTP stopped working immediately to the ML server. I had to restore the server to Lion, since there were other issues too, but what was weird was that Mail didn't work, even with the restored Lion server. I had to go in and "edit" my email account, then save it again, in order for it to work.

Aug 3, 2012 8:36 AM in response to Andy Edby Robert Farthing,I also had this issue on both of my O2 email accounts after upgrading to Mountain Lion. All other email accounts were o.k., but I couldn't send emails using the O2 SMTP (receiving emails was no problem).
I tried the port 25 trick, but this didn't fix it for me, but in Connection Doctor, it suggested un-ticking the SSL box in the Advanced tab of Edit SMTP List. This worked for both of my O2 email addresses.
I assume that O2 Mail doesn't support SSL.......
Hope this helps someone.
Bob.

Aug 3, 2012 8:47 AM in response to Andy Edby John Caradimas,When I contacted Apple for the various issues I had with the upgrade, they directed me to this document:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5381
And the procedure they describe in the "Upgrading from Lion Server or Mac OS X Server v10.6 Snow Leopard" section, fixed my SMTP issues.

Aug 5, 2012 2:52 AM in response to Andy Edby Leigh Skilton,Changing to port 25 (instead of Auto) fixed this for me also.
