Q: Is there any chance of a further repair extension?

I'm guessing a lot of these 2007 MBP's with the NVidia problem are breaking down right around now, like mine, just after the 4 year window.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Then you have never had one of these Macs that had the bad NVidia chips and had it DIE on you.

Did you even bother to look at google and see some of the links to how people have done this?

    Sneakers.

I had the same problem. I bought my 15" MBP back in june 2008 in the US, and last month it began showing some thin pink lines. I thought it was just a minor glitch but last week the whole screen went pink and blurry. I took it to my local "Authorized Reseller" as we don't have Apple Stores here in Chile.

They told me that it was out the 4 year window (for only one month!) so I'll have to pay US$ 62 for only checking if it was the infamous Nvidia problem, besides the replacement of the logic board which costs US$ 1600.

Is there going to be any further extension of this plan? The cost of replacing the logic board is utterly ridiculous and I'm definitely not paying for that.

It´s the same here in Argentina. But Apple says in its article*

"Apple will continue to evaluate the repair data and will provide further repair extensions as needed."

Well Apple clearly sees, and thinks, it is not needed. They want you to buy a New Mac after 4 years. Otherwise there would of never been a cutoff time.

4 Years is long enough for you to use your expensive computer. Any longer and Apple's bank account won't grow.

Wow! I just cant believe this! This was a really expensive computer and I feel this is really unfair. What can we do about this? All of us, together?

Just print the article and take it to the MacStore

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377

Agree with @brendazza In the article clearly reads:

"Apple will continue to evaluate the repair data and will provide further repair extensions as needed."

Or take it to another Apple reseller or distributor or store.

    Good luck!

I already heard that expression "set in stone" at the Genius bar.  It's not true,  I had no problem getting my board replaced outside of the "4 year" period. (Last week).

Do you or anyone else have a copy of this article as apple have updated it and removed the "will provide further repair extensions as needed"

I had to pay (lots of $) to have mine replaced and am trying to get apple to refund at least some of the cost. My board was 4years and 3 months old!

The trick with Apple is not to accept either their premise or their language.  If it's the Nvidia problem, Apple has already admitted "Factory defect” by taking NVIDIA to court so your computer was defective when it rolled off the assembly line and there is no need to talk about extensions or guarantees or arbitrary limits. I have had several computers replaced for myself and others for a variety of factory defects by using this approach. The other facet to my strategy is to bypass the local yokels and phone directly to 1 Infinite Loop Cupertino, CA 95014 and ask to speak to someone in authority. Once you talk to someone higher up on the food chain they are very compliant and will make the problem disappear. The last time it was an executive from Texas who authorized the free replacement of my motherboard.  The whole thing was over in minutes and the executive went to the trouble of following up to make sure I was 100% satisfied. I was!

hi andre, my mbp just died, was told its the logic board/nvidia, but the 4 years program repair expired in december 2012. i emailed to HQ in ireland, senior advisor for tech.support who said they will not do any exception to this program and will not cover the fee for repair. as a fair deal i offered they fix my mbp and i will buy new high-end mac immediately. no exception. i am doing internet research about exception. may i ask where are you from? i already found one guy from the UK who got an exception. thanks iva

My MBP which I bought is Sep 2008 with apple care failed last month. Apple (over the phone technical support) initially refused to fix it for free. After writing to Apple and escelating my complaint they agreed to replace the logic board for free. Over all I am a happy customer but it took me some time and effort to have it fixed
