Go to the Apple Downloads webpage and search for iDVD 7. Download and apply the 7.0.1 updater which includes themes from 5, 6 and 7. That will give you V5 themes. I've not found any other updater that contains any of the themes from the earlier versions.

If You got an old Mac with iDVD then You find them here - Copy and put in same location on New Mac.
iDVD 1 to 7.0.4
Root level = Macintosh HD / Library / Application Support / iDVD / Themes
Macintosh HD / USERS / Your name or login identity / Library / Application Support / iDVD / Installed Themes
iDVD 7.1 (from F Shippey )
The iDVD 7 themes are part of the iDVD 7 application package.
iDVD - ctrl-click Show content of package
Resources / Plug-ins/ - and here they are

Thanks folks for the info but I already have the themes for every version of iDVD.
That wasn't the uestion.
With the last iLife "11 DVD, when you loaded iDVD you got Themes for iDVD 6 and 7.
The themes for the 5 earlier versions were shown greyed out and if you clicked on one you would get a message telling you to download the remainder (700MB) by clicking the appropriate button on the message.
This button does not work with Mountain Lion but a friend has emailed to tell me it works with his Snow Leopard.
So it would appear that the "link" has either been broken in Lion or ML.

If all else fails try this workaround:
1 - open iDVD and save you current project as a Favorite theme using the File ➙ Save Theme as Favorite.. menu item. Do not check any of the checkboxes.
2 - copy the themes that are not registering in iDVD to the HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD/Favorites folder.
3 - change the extension on each theme from ".theme" to ".favorite".
4 - reboot, launch iDVD and view the All Themes pane at the bottom of the liste:
I tired it with the Global theme from iDVD 2. I changed the name to Global 2 but that's not necessary.

I have got all the themes.
What I am saying is that certainly up to and including SL anybody installing iDVD 7 could download all the missing (V.1 to 5) themes, but if they try it in Mountain Lion they can't.
When you try to install iDVD in ML you get a warning that the "certificate" has expired. However, the only detrimental effect appears that you can't download those early themes.
I have got all the themes. They are all working.
I just wanted to know at what stage in the OS X history the web downloads had ceased to work and the answer appears to be in either Lion or Mountain Lion.

Thought you were having trouble activiating the older themes. Many have. It must have been Lion since iDVD was discontinued the same time Lion was released.
