Q: I don't actually see any activity on the screen when I am downloading ios 3.1 for the touch (1st gen)

I can see in itunes, that is says it's downloading, but nothing is actually happening on my 1st gen touch

iPod touch, iOS 1.x

    Hi bondbuyer,

     

    Step away from the devices....As long as you see iTunes showing that the download is in progress, you are good to go. When it is all done, iTunes will stop doing stuff, and there may be a message on your iPod (or not). But once all activity stops on iTunes, unless there is some sort of error message, you are safe to eject your device from the computer.
