I noticed that the Webkit browser http://webkit.org

packs 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8 versions into one package. When you download it on a 10.8 machine, there's no RSS, the same build on 10.7 or 10.6 shows you RSS. Maybe some enterpising developer could find us a work around?

On a side note. I have unsubscribed to ALL email notifications from discussions.apple.com but i'm STILL getting notification emails. I flipped all those radio buttons to "No" but my in box fills up everytime someone replys to a thread. Could some one help me or direct me to some help, please ?

Doesn't Reader in Safari strip out the ads and isn't that the whole point of it? Can't imagine they'd be doing a deal with Google when they already provide a way to avoid all advertising on a page.

When you read this topic there is a link which says "Stop email notifications" in the top right corner. Did you click it? I have to warn you though, they are censuring this thread heavily so if you want to read all posts you have to stay on with the e-mail notifications...

Mat Pridham1 - Thanks! I've been able to find quite a few Safari developers at Apple on Twitter thanks to the information in your deleted post. I've invited them to this thread and I've asked them personally if they can explain why they took away the RSS support. If I find out I'll let you all know.

With regards to webkit, when you show package contents, they are there under frameworks. I tried moving the 10.8 framework out, but it wouldn't launch. Tried swapping the 10.8 executable with the 10.7 one, it launched but nothing happens and there were no rss numbers in my bookmarks bar. I'm not a programmer, but the webkit source code is downloadable. Perhaps some Dev could make a webkit-based broswer with integrated RSS, I'd use it :-)

Yep, they can try to cover it up by deleting opinions, but that won't stop me from openly saying no to Apple.  I'm tired of them doing away with things I use every day, because I don't fit the 80% demographic.  Apple was famously known for 'Think Differently", now it's "think like everyone else" because it generates more money.

RSS feed support is much more natural (does this ring a bell to Apple users ?) as feeds refer usually to Web pages. Using an other application or even some Notification center does complicate things.

BTW the 80-20% rule is probably the most stupid argument to be used here. Applied litterally, Apple (computers) should close as it does not represent (or at least not always has represented) a 20% share of the market.

Many times in the past has Apple take steps back to restore functionnalities to their products. Hope this will be the case also for RSS feeds in Safari (and why not a return of the Websharing preference at the same time !)

I've read a heap of stuff on this topic and the only plausible explanation for the removal is that the reader does strip out ads and therefore hinders the Great Ponzi Scheme that would have us all spend until we drop. Somewhere it was recommended that I switch to Vienna but my Mac refuses to install Vienna because my security preferences only allow the installation of downloads from the Mac store and from approved developers. The security preferences are set by the operating system and cannot be altered. There seems to be no doubt that Apple has agreed to make it harder for its customers to avoid advertising. Is the blocking of software at the whim of Apple constitute unreasonable use of its power? I would have thought so, and I would think that a challenge to this abuse of power would have to succeed. On that basis it's the government we should be lobbying, not Apple. Does anyone have any suggestions as to alternatives to Vienna? I suppose as soon as someone comes up with one it, too, will be blocked.

I made a safari extension that allow you to preview RSS feeds in the current window. I hope this extension makes Safari6 users happy a bit. (I know it cannot be an altenertive )

Just to reiterate:

It used to be that creativity came before money at Apple... Create “Insanely Great” products and the money will follow (and justify). for the past few years though, Apple seems to have become a greedy money grubbing corporation like any of the worst of them (like they really need more?).

You have to turn off GateKeeper or this will happen with every piece of unsigned software not from the App Store. This has been reported on a bunch of web sites.

What ads? None of the websites I use RSS for have ads. And RSS reads like Vienna show you the actual website the RSS feed is from, so there are the ads. I use an ad blocker anyway.

I wouldn't be happy with that! Mountain Lion kicks Snow Leopard's butt. I can live with no RSS in Safari for the rest of ML, and a super fast Safari 6.
