    Your welcome.

Having simple to follow easy summarys strategicaly placed cant be too bad.

I have shown quite a bit of interest in this thread which is not mine, but i have little time for replies to questions already answered if the thread is read through.

I do understand the thread is getting a bit long and i myself have been guilty before now of postong wrong or not reading thoroughly a thread.

I realy dont know if the credit is all mine or not but the formulation of the original question is perhaps impossible to answer.

Lets just hope Apple dont lose sight of the foundation that made them great.

For those of you as confused as I was, here is what I had to do to download an FLV...

1, enable 'show developer menu' in safari > preferences > advanced

    2. in the developer menu click 'show page resources'

    3. after the page resource box comes up, REFRESH THE PAGE. For some reason the 'other' folder in the left nav doesn't show up until you refresh.

    4. Inside the 'other' folder you'll find all the files being loaded.

    5. Scroll down to the 'flv' file (it will probably have a spinner to the right of it, as it's likely the largest file being loaded.)

    6. double click the file name to add it to your download queue.

    WHEW.

I have yet to upgrade to ML but I've been trying other ways to download. The best I've tried to far is the RealPlayer Downloader. Very similar and easy to use. I still prefer that activity window makes a comeback in Safari. I really don't like to have applications that I didn't need before. Same goes for RSS.

I have tried all the suggestions that everyone has made. I have not been able to get the Develop menu to work at all, but have found success with the Safari Extention someone mentioned called Fastest Tube 2.2. It works very well for Youtube videos. Unfortunately, it does not work for other websites.

This is what I did, first I downloaded RealPlayer (I ignored the configure your system promp).  In the menu bar go to Window and click on RealPlayer Downloader (it seems to be a seperate app).  Then after when I click on a link in Safari that has a video, Downloader pops open and if you click on Downloader it shows the file to be downloaded. It has it's own folder that the videos go into but I set it to go into the Downloads that activity window used to put them in. It shows the progress but the Downloads in the Dock doesn't do that little jump when it's finished but does show it's finished in the Downloader window.

Remember I have not upgraded to ML yet but have been looking for alternatives in case I do.

Nope, it doesn't work like that. That does not show page sources being downloaded. there is NOTHING that replicates the acitivty windows actual page load status

    http://mysticalos.com/no_activity2.jpg

network activity, none shown, not for plugin content.

resource activity, shows resource, a flv file, it does not show file size, download rate, or heck anything at all about it's status. it simply gives me a file name and path. i don't want file properties i want file activity. thus the whole point of the activity window.

    1. When RealPlayer Downloader is open already.

    2. And i click on a link in Safari6 to open a flash movie

    3. Nothing happens with RealPlayer Downloader

    4. And the film starts to load as usual in Safari6

So whats the secret to downloading with RealPlayer? what are the missing element?

this clearly cant be that simple.

How can others achieve this succesful download you are getting with RealPlayer?

When the film starts in Safari, click on the RealPlayer window that opens and the info on the film should show in that window. I assume it's the same in Safari 6 as the previous version.

To download YouTube videos, the free and open source Miro is very good.

    http://www.getmiro.com

I got it recently when it became necessary to find a replacement for the Java-based YouTube download service I was using.

    See here:

    http://www.getmiro.com/using-miro/

Note the "Sources" section in the left column. You can add YouTube to it. Search YouTube using Miro. Miro provides a Download button. Sadly it doesn't seem to work for Vimeo.

Click on that bottom part, the RealPlayer Downloader and the info should appear. Make sure you click on it. Don't bother with the top part which is the Player.

    1)  Go to Safari Preferences -> Advanced tab -> check the box saying "Show Develop Menu"

    2)  Make sure that the window with your video is on top so you can see it.  DO NOT PLAY THE VIDEO!!!

    3)  Go to the tool bar -> Develop menu (between Bookmarks and Window), select "Show Page Resources"

    4)  NOW you can play the video.  Watch the LEFT-HAND panel as you press play.

    5)  A dropdown file should appear as soon as you press play.  Its called "Other".  OPEN IT.

    6)  Somewhere in the "Other" folder will be your video file. It's the one with the loading sign next to it. Select it.

    7)  Then go to the RIGHT-HAND side panel. There will be a section titled "Location" and under that the "FULL URL" of your video file.  Copy it.

    8)  Paste it into the Safari address bar.  Hit Alt+Enter.  Download will begin immediately.

    9)  Enjoy your video.

NOTES:  DON'T play/load your video until the Page Resources thing shows at the bottom of your screen.  Reload your webpage if you have to.  Otherwise the important "Other" folder will not show up and you won't find your video file.  GOOD LUCK.

If that is the case then the Downloader can't get the info from Safari 6. I have not upgraded to 6, I still use 5.1.7.

I guess if I upgrade to ML I will have to use Firefox or Chrome.
