Text Wrap Problem

Most of the time, I can get text to wrap around graphics without a problem. However, I'm having a problem now that I can't figure out. Maybe you are just not supposed to do this or maybe I'm overlooking the obvious, please let me know.

I've broken the issue down to the following basic steps:

Start with a blank page.

Create a new text box. Make the type left aligned, black, and say 14 pt (so you can see it).

Create an oval shape and position it to the top left so the text wraps around it.

When I do this, the text wrap works fine in iBook Author.

The text wrap also works fine in preview on the iPad in Chapters as a thumbnail.

However, when I view the page on the iPad, the text does not run around the shape.

Any ideas or suggestions? Does it just not work on my machine and set up? Is it a bug?

TIA

I just tried this, and I'm getting the same problem. Text wraps correctly in IBA and on the thumbnail. On the iPad, the text crashes with the oval.

Interestingly, the thumbnail in landscope TOC view on the iPad is correct; it's only on the page proper that the problem appears.

    This is clearly a bug.

    Michi.

Strange. I'm seeing the problem. Here is what it looks like on my iPad 2:iPad screen.jpg

And, when looking at the TOC, you can see that, in the thumbnail, the text wraps correctly.

Here is what the page looks like in IBA. The text wraps correctly there.

Because it works for you, not for me. No other particular reason

Strange that we are seeing different behavior though…

It's definitely a bug if it renders differently in IBA and on the iPad. I'll submit a bug report to Apple.

Never mind. This is frustrating. Now, I can't even get the text to wrap properly using the basic shapes.:-(

Have you tried upgrading to the latest iBooks 2.1.1? Seeing that the problem shows up only in iBooks, the latest version might have fixed it.

I hesitate to say this, but I think I've got it figured out. I still think it's still a bug, but I've tried the following several times and was able to repeat it each time.

If you have the + sign at the bottom of the text box you are trying to get to wrap, the text will not wrap correctly. If you delete enough text to get the + sign to go away, the text wraps correctly.

Doesn't seem to matter if you create a text block or use a shape as your text block.

Please confirm if this is true for you too.

    TIA

Confirmed! This is the solution for now.
