Q: When can we expect a windows driver for Nvidia GeForce GT 650M on new macbook pro retina display?

When can we expect a windows driver for Nvidia GeForce GT 650M on the new macbook pro retina display? I want to load flight simulator onto it however I will require use of the macbook pro's (awesome) video card, roughly how long will it be until there is a windows driver released for it? Also, when will apple update bootcamp for the retina display (will it be released at the same time as the driver)? Thanks in advance everyone!

    Hi Erwin,

I'm experiencing the same thing as Alessandro.  I followed your post to the T and it helped make it so I can get the installer past recognizing the hardware, but it fails to install the audio and graphics drivers.  Any ideas would be very much appreciated.  One if the reasons why I ran out and bought the rMBP (after a lot of research and comparing apple computers to each other) was that I wanted to play The Secret World. Mi bought that on impulse, found out by HP couldn't handle it, ran out to get the rMBP, and now I'm stuck.

No, I do not support this .inf hack, and neither does NVIDIA or Apple,

    so please stop asking.

It works for me and some others, using the latest NVIDIA 304.79 driver for Windows 7, 64bit,

for the Macbook Pro Retina with NVIDIA 650m.

So if you need support you need to wait for Apple to update the driver.

    Yikes.

Yes, I am also using the latest NVIDIA 304.79 drivers for Windows 7, 64 bit, for the Macbook Pro Retina with NVIDIA GEFORCE GT650m.  And it's not working for me.

But clearly that's not your problem.  Thanks for posting the hack in the first place.

    Dear Erwin,

we are not asking your support for the .inf hacked, we just need information, and this is normal, we are in a support forum!

Can you write us at least wich version of mbp retina you have? I want to understand if this issue during install process depends on the video card or on Windows version.

My config is mbp retina 2,6 with 650M 1GB GDDR5

Windows version is Win 7 64 bit home premium.

Thank you for your kind reply.

    Alessandro,

I have the same setup as you.

For some reason, I couldn't use the .inf files from Erwin's github (I tried right click > save as, but those didn't work) - I got an "installation failed" message or something similar.

But when I followed his instructions step by step and made the .inf file additions myself manually, I was able to get it to install.

Of note - I was using the -english version of the driver.  I didn't see the nv_disp.inf in the -international version.

    Ill_GB

I am also using the same setup.  One issue I ran into is that the English version doesn't seem to exist.  What I mean is, even the link that Erwin posted that has "English" in the link itself leads to the International version on Nvidia's website.  As he pointed out in an earlier posted, the nv_ disp.inf file is actually called the nwi.inf file in the international version.  This is where I added the four lines he said he would need to so that the hardware would be recognized.  That worked to get the hardware recognized, but the audio and video drivers still failed to install.

    Didn't realize that about nwi.inf - thanks.

I downloaded this English version, followed Erwin's instructions with the nv_disp.inf file, and it worked.

Thanks for all the help, everyone.

ill_gb I downloaded this version and finally I did it.

After a few days of test I have to say changes in terms of performance are almost null.

An issue now I have: inside the NVIDIA PANEL on the left bottom corner when I click on the info button, I can't see no more the driver version installed, so I can't check if the new driver are currently working or not..

    Thank you anyway to everyone!

    Hi Erwin,

Thank you for the hack. The frame rate of Blu-ray playback is hugely improved with the driver update, thus evidence I've noticed of a signifcant performance improvement. [For those of you who are wondering, I have a plexator portable USB blu ray player and PowerDVD12 software to play blu rays on my MacPro Retina Display on Windows. And yes, watching blu rays on the retina display is simply gorgeous!]

    Many thanks again,

    Samuel

    Fellow forum browsers,

I am encountering an issue when trying to do this process, I have been puzzled why this is not working for me, I have downloaded the English version that Ill_gb posted and have followed Erwins steps-unfortunately the installer doesnt get past the system check, it says nvidia installer cannot continue, the graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

    another caveat-

If i just take erwins nv_disp from the github, the installer gets a little further but remains stuck on the install step and just says nvidia installer failed.

thanks for all the information, and if anyone has thoughts on my situation it would be greatly appreciated.

    cheers

This is what I posted in a different forum; this is how I got it to work, but I don't know if it'll be relevant for you:

    NVIDIA DRIVER FIX

I had this same problem with The Secret World. Fix it by reading this thread and following ErwinCouman's advice:

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread...rt=15&tstart=0

Do NOT download the nvidia beta 304.79 driver through the links he posted because they will lead to the international version and the four lines you need to add to the file won't work with that one. Download the one that ill_gb posted on page 2 of the thread for the English version:

    http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/46279

Follow Erwincouman's directions in his second post in the thread by navigating to the DisplayDriver folder and copying and adding his lines to the nv_disp.inf (Set Up) file. Here is a link to an image of where he put the two lines:

    https://github.com/erwincoumans/expe...daef23d49b7be3

NOTE: I noticed when I was adding his first line of code that he indicated 3 places where they should go: on the first line under each of the 3 Nvidia devices sections. I actually found 4 in my file and made sure the line was added to all 4 sections. I also added his second line exactly where he put it in the strings section, which is near the bottom of the file.

    CURSOR FIX

This will address the issue where it seems like your mouse isn't pointing where it is showing up on the screen:

    1. Right click on the The Secret World shortcut

    2. Select "Properties"

    3. Click the "Compatibility" tab

    4. Check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings"

    5. Click "Ok"

    6. Enjoy

Vengali, thanks for the support, however this is what I have been doing and still am receiving an error.

let me walk through EXACTLY what i am doing to see if you spot an error.

    1. Download the driver from http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/46279

    2. It opens automatically and install fails.

    3. navigate to computer>bootcampC:>NVIDIA>DisplayDriver>304.79>Win8_64>English>display.driver

    4. Open up nv_disp

    5. add a line directly under containing:

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0FD5.00F2.106B% = Section029, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0FD5&SUBSYS_00F2106B

too the four sections that fall under the title

         a) [NVIDIA_SetB_Devices.NTamd64.6.0]

         b) [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.0]

         c) [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.1]

         d)[NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.2]

    6. crtl+f to find NVIDIA_DEV.0FC2 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 ". press return to enter another line : NVIDIA_DEV.0FD5.00F2.106B = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M"

    7. save.

    8. navigate to computer>bootcampC:>NVIDIA>DisplayDriver>304.79>Win8_64>English and launch setup

when I launch it, no change, it immediately says error, hardware not found.

I have the macbookpro that is NOT retina display, but has the geforce gt 650m-the 2.6ghz model. $2199

    thanks again

-ps the first link just leads to the forum board the second link from github is 404'd?

    I did exactly this!

    I have an all new

    MB Pro Retina 15"

    i7 2.3

    16 gb ram

    64 bit

    gforce gt 650m

Your step by step tutorial was a successfull installation of the driver 304.79

BUT nothing changed. Same problem with the resolution like with the native 209 version. Still only 1920x1200.

    Cydoval,

If yours isn't the Retina MBP, did you try simply installing the driver without the fixes in this thread.  From my research, all these extra steps are only needed for the rMBP because Apple took the GT 650M and physically tweaked it to make it work with the Retina display.  There are actually a few threads that mention something about how it over clocks or something and ends up performing better than some other graphics car that should be better on paper.  This is also why it is unlikely that Nvidia will come out for a driver for this issue, since Apple caused it by basically modifying the GPU in the first place.  I haven't heard anything from Apple about when they will address this.

In any case, I on't know if t might be worth running this English Beta driver without any of the changes?
