This article says I can retrieve my Quick Time Pro registration key from my order history... no I can't; the "downloadable software" option is not in the "account" selection drop down and I can't find additional locations to find it. Typical apple.

As pointed out in the the later article (QuickTime Pro Key: Retrieving a lost key, dated June 6, 2012) and the QT User Tips area, if you purchased the key within the last 18 months, the key "should" be available in the "Order History" area of your Apple Online Store account. Purchases made between 18 and 24 months may or may not still be available from Apple but may require your calling. Purchases made in excess of 24 months ago appear to no longer be available for recall following last year's software changes to store web site. See links below.

Purchased Aug 29, 2011... not in my account information. Again, typical Apple - tells you to go to someplace that doesn't exist (downloadable software in my account) and then has no recourse to find a different solution... wants you to "call" when all I want is the solution that should have been there all along. And yes I am a geek and a Windows/Linux guy. Apple is a pain to deal with in so many ways.

And yeah, the key word in your response here is "should" the fact is 'isn't'. Once Apple has your money, they lose interest and you need to go to the "community"... very sad.

The article telling you to go to your "downloadable software" is dated March 9, 2011 and has been superseded by article HT2376 dated June 6, 2012 which tells you to go to you "Order History" list. Have you gone there?

Are you saying that you actually went to your "View Order History" area of your Apple Online Store Account and the information is not available there? If so, please confirm. We have been waiting for a recent purchaser (someone with a purchase date within the last 18 months) to confirm or refute the accuracy of the Apple's latest instructions.

Yes to both of your questions. Apple obviously has no ability to test the changes made nor to validate processes before implementing them. As a reference, I am a Quality Engineer in the Medical Device industry and we don't allow anyone to implement anything that is not proven. Apple apparently is not interrested in that philosopny. Waiting indeed....

Within 18 months? You have to be kidding: are you a college kid?

Yes to both of your questions.

Thank you for confirming that Apple's instructions are inaccurate. I will see if I can update the "User Tip" to indicate that you have refuted Apple's claim that QT 7 Pro key information is available at the Apple Online Store Account area. Recommend you provide QT feedback regarding this issue to try and get this problem fixed.

As a fellow user, I too am disappointed by your revelation. Had assumed the information was accurate but was not willing to purchase yet another key just for the privilege of checking the accuracy of their instructions.

    Within 18 months?

I have noticed recently that many of the sources from which I regularly make purchases now have an 18 month limitation on accessing purchase information. Am beginning to wonder if they may be outsourcing this function to some sort of commercial service.

No, I am on the high side of retirement but to have multiple degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics, and various artificial/natural languages... if that helps.

Sorry about getting back to this late... my reference to "college kid" was an observation on Apple's cultural response to these kinds of issues (i.e., its not my problem, my stuff is perfect and always works like I say it does - or... isn't this obvious?); it wasn't meant as a slight to you personally.

My 35 years in hi technology manufacturing along with an MBA has lead me to expect more effective customer support and also that sellers of the caliber of Apple will meet the promises that are made. i.e., if the corporate customer interface site indicates that actions are available on certain pages, they will be there. There is absolutely no excuse for a "technology" company to be technically incompetent.

I still don't know how to retrieve my activation/registration key.... all being said; and no, I don't want to call anyone, I want it to be there.

    Thanks for your input though.

    Hi!

I have exactly the same problem as you. Did you find a way to get your registration code?

Jon, do you know if I can solve this by another way now?

    Thank you!

Afraid not. I downloaded all of my registration keys the and different copies of the QT MPEG-2 Playback components to my computer and placed everything on three different hard drives and two thumb drives for backup/safe keeping about a year ago following Apple's first closing of "front door" access to this purchase history area. By the time Apple closed the "back door," I already had all of my stuff backed up elsewhere.

No I haven't found an alternate solution to the issue (not sure if I want to give up on this). If it weren't for the fact that my daughter is a Mac Book Pro owner and my aviation apps run okay on my iPad, I'd walk away from Apple all together.

Thank you! I just gave up to find an answer online and called Apple a few minutes ago and a technician was able to give me my registration key back.

    Miracle!

Glad to hear that they were able to help someone over the phone. Was beginning to wonder if QT 7 Pro registration data was totally lost at Apple.
