This is the most common solution offered, and it worked ONCE, for me. As soon as I rebooted my machine the error was back. I guess we'll just have to wait for Microsoft to fix SkyDrive....

The solution posted by DandKPellerin is the same I stumbled on trying to get access to my SkyDrive files. I am able to save changes to the documents located in my SkyDrive folder on my Mac since I followed the aforementioned directions, but Safari will not allow me to Open the documents online while in the SkyDrive web app. The Chrome browser does allow me to open the documents in the Chrome Browser.

I have had the same experience. After changing the keychain access, SkyDrive was functional until the next reboot. Now the message says that SkyDrive needs to be updated but the available version of SkyDrive on the Microsoft site does not fix the problem.

Note the answer posted 7/31, not the earlier one. Microsoft has a new version of SkyDrive that apparently fixes this.

The Microsoft page is full of posts as well with people whow are having difficulty with SkyDrive.
Supposedly a new version of SkyDrive was made available the same day as Mountian Lion, but it does not download when you try to download from the link mentioned. It is always a files dated 7/10/12 instead of 7/24/12.
We probably need to post on Microsoft's communities page urging them to correct the situation.

I just downloaded from the link that is part of the 7/31 post saying there is a fix. The downloaded version did have a modification date of 7/24/12, not 7/10/12. And so far, with a couple of restarts, the keychain message has not resurfaced.

I was able to download the NEW version dated 7/24/12 on my MacBook fine, but I have tried 5 times to download the New Version on my MacPro and always get the old version dated 7/10/12. It makes no sense to go to the very same web link and receive two different files.

After scanning through the posts here and on the Microsoft site, parsing through why sometimes a fix worked and other times it didn't, I decided to try the following solution.
First, navigate to Applications>Utilities>Kaychain Access.app. Delete SkyDrive Cached Credential. Re-boot.
Second, on booting back up, you will be greeted by a notification the SkyDrive needs to install an update. Download the update -- and I mean just download the update. You'll apply the update after step three. Incidentally, the update will be dated July 24, but you need pay no nevermind to that issue.
Third, be certain to follow the next step or this fix won't work for you: Before installing the update, make sure that SkyDrive is not running.
The third step is not in any of the posts or discussions, but is common sensical. Remember, although SkyDrive needs your password from Keychain to gain access to your cloud files, it does not need a password to run locally. Just look up top for the Cloud, and if it's there, Skydrive is running, immasculated or not.
Fourth, once you've stopped SkyDrive, install the update and re-boot once again.
Your re-boot should be as it was before the SkyDrive Keychain issue arose, and all should be hunky-dory with SkyDrive and your Keychain. In passing, I'll note that for me the benefits of SkyDrive are wonderful, and I don't mind fidling a little in order to take advantage of them.
I replicated the solution, though certainly not on any scale -- just here at my home. But this process not only makes sense, reflecting the experiences described in the various posts, but works like a charm. I am much more comfortable with this solution than with tinkering further with Keychain settings.
By the way, this isn't the first time that a significant operating system upgrade created problems with other programs. My guess is that Microsoft is preparing a more elegant fix, but in the meantime, this one worked in my test. Hope it works for you, too.

This did not work for me on my MacPro. I made sure SkyDrive was quit and still received the same file dated 7/10. I did however follow these instructions from Microsoft and was able to retrieve the correct file from 7/24.
For those who are still getting the old 7/10 bits,
Can you try this:
(If you have Safari 5)
1. Safari menu > Empty Caches
2. go to apps.live.com
3. follow the links to download SkyDrive
(If you have Safari 6)
1. Go to Preferences > Advanced
2. Check "Show Develop menu in menu bar"
3. Develop menu > Empty Caches
4. go to apps.live.com
5. follow the links to download SkyDrive
I hope this solves the problem for everyone else.
