Q: Aperture Crash

I had to rebuild my Mac from scratch a couple of months ago.  I had to reinstall Final Cut Express 4.0.1 because I forgot to do so after reinstalling everything else.  I did it this morning, I went through and updated the Software after installation, which included a plug-in update.

Now, all the sudden, my Aperture is crashing.  Here is the report.

Clearly, the reinstall for Final Cut Express caused this, but why is it affecting Aperture??

And more to the point, what should I do?  Will simply uninstalling FCE help if other things in the System have been affected?

Fustrated.  I don't want to rebuild my Laptop again.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7), 2.53 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.

You don't need to rebuild the laptop.  This is a common issue around here... with that framework.

I'd say try reinstalling Aperture itself.  I can't recall exactly how to fix the busted framework.

That particular framework will be restored, when you reinstall your MacOS - this error has been known for a long time:

Aperture 3.x: Aperture unexpectedly quits if Final Cut Express 4 is installed:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3528

If you do not want to go to the trouble of reinstalling the system, you might try to restore the framework from your TimeMachine backup, look for

         /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager

Go back in time, to a date before you installed Final Cut.

Before you enter Time Machine, open the Folder "Library" on your System Drive in the Finder, then the subfolder "FrameWorks", and with that folder selected in the Finder open TimeMachine and go back in time. Restore the "PluginManager" folder to your System Library.

    Regards

    Léonie

    P.S:

Clearly, the reinstall for Final Cut Express caused this, but why is it affecting Aperture??

Aperture relies heavily on plug-ins, and the one framework that Final Cut uses seems to be for a wrong architecture; you need teh code to be compiled for the architecture of your machine.

Wound up going to the Genius Bar for help, but on further reflection I could've done it at home.  I tried just relaunching the 3.3.2 Installer but that didn't work.  The Genius reinstalled everything (and that's what I could have done at home).  Anyway, it is working now.  But this is still a strange problem.  I've never seen Apple on Apple crime before.
