HT1338 upgraded to mountain lion and wifi keeps dropping

    At any rate, resetting the PRAM helped considerably for me and having just found that article this morning, resetting the MTU is still up in the 'air' if that will help.  But like I said, after I reset my PRAM, my connection has been pretty stable ever since...

     

    Although I also went through the Keychain and got rid of all of my old keys / passwords that I no longer use, and also a few old Preference Panels that weren't being used as well.  Basic housekeeping - getting rid of a lot of apps, etc. that I was no longer using or very old.  At least it was a good time to do a bit of housekeeping while my Wi-Fi kept going up and down.

     

    Anyhow, like I said - After resetting my PRAM, my connection has barely dropped at all - maybe about 2 or 3 times since, and that was about 3-4 days ago.  Just FYI.

     

    ...and I also posted a link to that article in order to help others that might find it helpful and fix their issues, as it seems like everyone is having really weird and different issues than others.

    Installed Mountain Lion on Monday.

    Immediately had wifi connection problems.

    After Macbook Pro 2011 (2.7Ghz Intel Core i7) goes to sleep, it will not reconnect to wifi when woken.

    I have to reboot the wifi router everytime.

    The wireless router is Siemens Gigaset SE551.

    Never had a problem with Lion.

    Annoying! Need quick fix from Apple

    For the record, I've been following this thread since it was created, I've applied all the proposed solutions but nothing seems to work. I keep losing my connection to random websites during the day and they become unaccessible for at least a minute. I have a clean install and this doesn't happen with my other Mac (which has Lion) or my iOS devices.

     

    Apple fix this ffs!!

    Apple tech contacted me yesterday. Sorry, but had to tell him everything cleared up and my connection is staying up now. Sorry because I didn't make any changes to my MBA or router.  Good luck and I'm knocking on wood that it stays up.

    Can you try something for me?

     

    Open the app store and start downloading something big... like iPhoto.

    See if your browser still has a connection.

     

    When I first installed ML, my browser was down every 10 - 15 min. I think it was because ML was downloading and doing stuff in the background. After a couple days, its more like every hour or two... depending on network traffic.

     

    It only happens on my slower internet connection on my WPA P not my WPA2 P.

    If you're on the same network you experienced issues with prior, please try downloading a larger app from the mac app store.

     

    I'd really like to know if your issues are resolved or if they are just not really up close and personal anymore.

    Downloaded several files with no loss of WiFi. Sorry, iPhoto already had so couldn't try.

    Received call from Apple Engineer out of the blue (**** impressed) - they're definitely grabbing info and diagnostics to get this resolved very quickly.

    Ok, try this.

    Go to network in system preferences.

    If it is locked, unlock it.

    Select wi-fi or airport connection, and click on the minus sign below, and delete the connection.

    The airport icon in the menu bar should go blank.

    Now, click on the plus sign and create wi-fi connection. Name it whatever you want.

    Now select the network you want to be connected to, and you should be connected.

    That is it.

     

    This worked for me, my connection would drop every couple seconds, the computer would wake up with no connection. Now it works like it used to, no more problems.

    None of these "solutions" have worked for me. I'll call Apple to follow up - because this is just really, really lame. Every time I think maybe it's better it stops. Surest way for me to stop it is to stream video - Netflix always does the trick after about 5 minutes. Once the cache hits roughly 40mb the wi-fi simply chokes. At this point I'm so sick of pinging-Google that I'd buy another router... but would that even help? Not sure it would...

    For those whose wifi connection still keeps droping, you can run this simple applescript in the background to automatically reconnect (see below).  Just adjust the delay and network interface name if needed.  To run, start the "AppleScript Editor", paste the script and click run..... Works decently for casual use (i.e. browsing) and sure beats having to keep turning the wifi on and off manually.

     

    I hope apple investigates and fixes the issue soon.

    Actually, use ping in the script instead of curl.... Quicker and seems to keep the conection alive for longer.

    This wifi problem is still ongoing for me too.

    I've tried all the various suggestions I've seen, even going as far as deleting all Network Locations/Settings and then manually entering a new Network setup with wifi SSID, password etc.

    Still get erratic wifi performance - sometimes it keeps up ok, sometimes it keeps dropping out. (No problems with wifi connections from Win7 Laptop, iPad2, iPhone)

    The last time this happened, after upgrade to OSX Lion, it took a specific update from Apple called 'iMac Wifi Update' on 5 April 2012, before it was fixed.

    So come on Apple, do what you did then and fix it please!

    I purchased a 21.5 Mac with Mountain a week ago.  Spent an hour or so on the phone with Apple when I observed Wifi dropping out randomly.  Had the new Mac sitting right beside my 5 year old Leopard system.  Leopard never had and issue and still doesn't.  I have been an Apple lover for the past 5 years... 3 iPod Touches, 2 nanos, Mac desktop, and 3 iPhones... but I'm done now.  For the amount of money I put into this Mountain Lion unit - to lose connection 6-8 times a day with no resolution is pathetic.  I did not raise my voice one time to the Apple tech on the phone - and I won't fill up message boards about how I hate Apple.  But this one person is finished with this company and I will be returning the computer this week.  If this was a defective computer and an isolated issue, my opinion would be totally different - but it's not.

    I hear you and I feel the same way. I really really really wanted to love this company but I can stop thinking that Microsoft would do a better job releasing a fix for a problem. At least is not a security hole in the OS. I had the same problem with WIFI disconnecting and after reinstalling the OS + upgrading router my connection seems to be stable. I am still seeing issues with other programs such as Safari 6 not displaying or breaking scripts in Google Docs but I can still live with those problems for the moment.

    I'm not sure which is worse - feeling like Apple is rushing things and I'm the one who pays the price or having to start looking at Microsoft products again.  This is going to start turning into cell plan choices - you just pick your poison.  I'm not a techie like most here - but when I put over a grand into a new system, plug it in, and start it - it should connect to the wireless network I have seamlessly like my 5 year old Mac has always done.  A defective machine is a different story - that's not what is going on here.  I'm so frustrated with this.
