Your iMac must be a 2011 or new.

If you meet the above specs,  Look at the software on the tv.  It must be 5.0.2 level.

That probably won't work. Apple says that the devices have to be on the same WiFi network.

Apple's support article for Airplay Mirroring says that if you don't see AirPlay Mirroring in Displays Preferences, then your Mac model does not support it. So confirm that your iMac really is a Mid-2011 model. Go to About This Mac under the Apple menu, click More Info, and see what it says there.

Your iMac has the Mirroring option in the Display preference but it says it doesn't detect the Apple TV.

Are you sure your tv software level is 5.0.2

    On the tv, Settings > General > about > Apple TV Sotware - 5.0.2 (4250)

Sorry, I evidently misunderstood and thought you meant that the Airplay option didn't appear at all. I wasn't able to view your original picture so I didn't see the option there.

    A couple of thoughts:

    - Check the IP addresses on the Mac and on the Apple TV and confirm that they really are on the same subnet. If they're both connected to the same WiFi router, they should be, but that could be different depending on the router settings (if one device is using 802.11n and the other isn't, for instance).

    - confirm that the Apple TV is indeed on the latest firmware. If it is and the two devices really are on the same subnet, try toggling AirPlay off and back on.

    - try connecting both the Apple TV and the Mac to Ethernet if you can and see if it will then work (digging further, I found that Apple's support articles say that you can't mix, but that mirroring should work if both devices are either on WiFi or on Ethernet; they just have to be the same).

    Hope this helps.

apple tv software could be my issue , i am on 4.3.3 or somthing like that, when i try to update apple tv its says "apple tv upto date" could this be because its jailbroken?

You are most certainly not on the latest version of the Apple TV OS, and do need to have a newer version to support Airplay mirroring. Quite probably the update problem is due to the jailbreak, but your on your own for that issue; we cannot help you jailbroken devices in these forums.
