Q: iTunes Match on Mountain Lion doesn't work on my 2012 MacBook Pro. I had Lion before, and iTunes Match worked fine. Now it disconnects and back every few seconds. I tried resetting cache, iTunes, turning on/off match, but nothing works. Now what?

I recently upgraded my 2012 MacBook Pro (w/o the new display) from Lion to Mountain Lion. On the ladder, iTunes Match doesn't work. It never connects, in other words, I can't use it, thus making songs uploaded unplayable. On Lion, iTunes Match worked perfectly. I tried resetting iTunes Store Cache, program itself, turning off and on Itunes Match several times, etc, but nothing works. So now what can I do? Hopefully Apple rolls out an update this week to correct the problem. This is very irritating.

Same issue here with 27' Mountain Lion. The only current way to add songs to iCloud is to turn off iTunes Match, add the new songs to iTunes, turn back on Match. Let the match process run through. Made the new songs available for download on my iPhone. On iMac Match keeps to sync over and over again. Hope Apple will come with a fix soon. Darm I should have waited with till at least 10.8.1

Deleting all the networks, reboot, sign out from iTunes, sign in, turn on iTunes Match works for me !

    Just uploaded 50 new songs.

It takes a lot of time to send information to Apple (server issue ?).

    Thank you very much

So far none of the tips in this thread have worked for me. I really hope Apple fixes this soon. This is getting quite irritating. I've even emailed iTunes Store support and haven't heard back in 2 days.

Yeah, iTunes match is a real sucker since the beginning. But there is no other service around that is better from the principle (not the reliability). I just turned back to iPhone recently after testing a Galaxy Note for 3 days. The lack of a good music solution weighted over 75% for my decision coming back to iPhone. Let's hope Apple is fixing this soon and even more importantly have it run smoothly on iOS6. I don't know how you think but Apple has become sloppy after Steve has passed.

Wow, this is a mess… seems like there are different issues going on here that show similar symptoms. Reporting it to Apple might not solve anything immediately, but the more people contact them the likelier it is that something will be done about it.

@emiliocastorina, good to hear that you've got it working again!

The "sending information…"-part is awfully slow for me too. But it has been for a lot of people for quite a while (pre Mountain Lion), there have been several threads about it here.

But honestly I'm just glad that I'm able to use the service again, no matter how slow it is…

I have read through the entire thread, and while I cannot say my issue is identical to the OP, I think the underlying issue is the same. I think the iTM service is not robust.

I recently subscribed to iTM, just AFTER upgrading to Mountain Lion (17" MacBook Pro, early 2008), as I thought that was the best sequence to do it, so I have no history with iTM and Lion. I think the issue is iTunes Match process is not robust for network outages. If you lose your internet connection...even briefly, I have found that iTM resets to step one. I have also see it reset for reasons I can't determine. With large libraries (mine is about 17k songs) this is a serious issue. Step 1 is fairly slow, but 2 takes several hours. It checked the first half of my library in less than an hour, but the latter half takes hours. Shouldn't iTM store the information gathered from steps 1 and 2 so it does not have to be repeated? Even if my library has changed (purchased music or extracted more CDs), I can re-run iTM later, I don't care if it’s out of date.

Since iTM resets often, I have only successfully uploaded 300 songs, over the last 4 days, and spent the rest of the time repeating step 2 over and over.

I have found Google Play's "music manager" to be far more robust. It re-checks my library periodically (and more quickly) and creates an upload queue. It uploads faster too. I bought an Apple TV specifically for iTM, but now I’m not convinced that’s the best solution.

Hi. Like everyone here, I've been having issues with iTunes match since upgrading to Mountain Lion on my Macbook Air (mid 2011). Worked fine on Lion.

Trying all the suggestions in the thread didnt resolve my issue, but what did for me was using a different wireless router. At first, I took my macbook into work, and it worked flawlessly there, despite consitantly being unable to match tracks on my home connection.

At home, I have a modem/wifi router connected downstairs by the phone line (that im forced to use by my isp), and I have a dedicated wifi router on the first floor that I tend to use as it has better range. Both routers are connected via ethernet. Turns out connecting to the router thats connected to the phoneline is fine, but connecting to my normal router, I have the issues with it stopping the match process and losing connection to itunes match. It was fine on my normal router before Mountain Lion however.

Anyway, this does tie in with some other routing issues I've been having (this time with my windows laptop connecting to work via vpn). I have dropouts on my normal router when I connect to vpn, with a similar frequency to the issues I have with itunes match. After some research, it turns out it was because I was going through two NAT routers, which was fine for day to day internet browsing but not for VPN.

So at the moment, im unsure if the issue is caused by my double nat setup, or just a general incompatibility with my normal router. I would like to try connecting to my normal router by ethernet to rule out one or the other, but I dont have the adaptor for my macbook air and have no real need to buy one.

Maybe everyone should start putting in there ISP and type of router to see if we can find a common culprit.  I use an AT&T 2Wire 2701HG-B.  I still haven't found a solution to my problem, but don't have an alernate router to try.

I just tried tethering my iMac to my phone to see if that works.  The first time through it didn't work and restarted during step 1 just like before.  I decided to let it run through one more time and it actually completed step one, but restarted during step 2.  Didn't let it try again due to possible large data hit on my cell phone.

I was finally able to get the iTM service to stop spinning its wheels and complete the step 3 by choosing an ineligible music video and selecting "add to iCloud." This finally forced the process to complete and I got the "done" screen. I can't add any new tracks to iTM for the moment, but at least it is working... mostly.

I finally got a reply to the email I sent to iTunes Store support, and as expected, it was unhelpful. Apparently the only solutions are to reset my iTunes Match account which will wipe out all my music on the server. Not an option for me. Or for me to call AppleCare and have them "explain our complimentary and fee-based support options." As much as I like the products and services and support sometimes it just hits a clanger note.
