Q: Deleting Old Email Addresses From Cache?

Two of my contacts have changed there email addresses, and I updated it in contacts, however as I begin to type there email in the "To" section I get a list of emails addresses popping up including the ones I deleted from my contacts.  I assume they are coming from some kind of cache, but have not found a way to delete those emails that pop up.  It's a nice feature, but if the emails are not correct it really does not help.

Just sent feedback Apple to raise this issue. I cited a real life example for needing a feature to stop the auto-fill. I had replaced my niece's email address in Contacts to send all mail to her personal, not the work account. Sure enough as a result of the auto-fill from the cache a highly personal email mistakenly went off to her work emai, where it is subject to scrutiny. She was rightfully upset with me.

Same problem here, trying to help my mom as she typed an address wrong and now it keeps comming up wrong. She is very frustrated as am I.  In Microsoft Outlook when the cached entry comes up you simply click the X or the delete button and it is gone from the cache. Seems like a simple thing to do for iOS. Get with it Apple and get a fix. I hear about this problem all the time form customers and they simply deal with it and "suffer in silence"  Many switched to Android when they got there new phone. Ouch !!!

I sent a message to apple last week about this issue. I suggest we all send messages so they'll have to finally solve it.

This works on a Mac, from the Mac forum.  I don't have an iPad, but I don't see why it won't work.

"With the Mail window open, click on Window in the menubar, and choose Previous Recipients. Highlight any or all, and Remove."

Hi belchfire,  This is an iOS problem only.

Natked, how do you send a message to apple directly?

This worked for me on an iPad2.  Your mileage may vary.

Send an email with the bogus name.

Go into your sent folder and open the email you just sent.

Tap on the name in the To: box that you need to change.

    Tap edit.

    Change the name.

    Save the change.

    Worked for me.

Haven't figured out how to delete one yet, but at least now I can send email to the right name.

Hi all. I am new to this forum, but I have been finding this issue to be annoying as well, for similar reasons. Has anyone tried to check "Sync Mail Accounts" in the info section on the iOS device when connected to iTunes? It says it syncs your email account settings, so maybe it would sync your previous recipient settings stored on your Mac's Mail App with your iOS device. Has anyone tried this? I haven't ever checked that option because an Apple employee told me it can sometimes cuase issues with Mobile Me/iCloud, and that is what I use for email.

Not included with the iTunes sync process for email account settings.

Are you sure about that? Have you tried? I never understood what account settings it synced anyways, because aren't the actual account settings stored on the server or in the settings of the iPhone/iPad?

Yes I'm sure or I would not have provided it.

Syncing email account settings for email accounts being accessed on your computer are just that so you don't have to manually create an account on the iPhone.

    Name

    Email address

    User name

    Password

    Incoming mail server

    Outgoing mail server

Oh ok. I guess that option is only good if you have a non iCloud email account, because iCloud syncs that stuff over the air to the iOS device anyways. Which would explain why the Apple employee said it can cause issues-duplicates and stuff. Well that stinks. Hopefully Apple will make an option to clear previous recipients on an iOS device like on a Mac in the future.
