I am going to sell my macbook and I do not have the OS dvd that came with the computer. It is going to an acquaintance (newbie), so there are no real security issues. I just want to get my old stuff off and let her start from scratch. What about my login info, also?

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

    you can do this....

login to your itunes and appstore - deauthorize your macbook....

go to system preferences - users and groups - and create a new user - your friend's name....

restart your macbook and login using your friend's name....

now go back to users and groups - delete your username...

once you've done that - search your macbook for your old files/videos/pictures and delete them too....

now go to system preferences - sharing - computer name - edit - put your friend's name...

those are just the basic - it is however, much better to do an clean install

If you're running Lion, as your profile states, DO NOT follow Bimmer's advice. You need to get your original install disks & erase/format the drive, then give it to your friend. If you don't have the disks, you need to call AppleCare & get replacements. The Lion upgrade is FOREVER tied to your account. If your friend ever wants to update or needs to restore, they will have to use your account...not to mention the SLA does not permit you to do this. If you do not do as I suggest, you will create a mess for your friend.

If your friend wants Lion(no longer available) or Mountain Lion, they need to purchase such themselves.

Yep. It is against the SLA to do as you suggest, not to mention it will create a mess. Of course, it the OP is running SL..that's OK. But the profile says Lion. That's why I stated "if Lion".

Ok...Sorry - thanks for clearing that one up......

Robert609 - Ignore my advice and follow wjosten - don't want to create a mess for you or your friend....

Thanks wjosten......once in a while I do need a slap in the hand for making the wrong suggeston....

    cheers....

Just wait...your advice could very well be fine...remember, I said "if Lion".
