Last week, I made what I strongly suspect was a mistake, and upgraded to Mountain Lion.  It seems to me slow and cumbersome compared with Snow Leopard, but, worst of all, as a result QuickTime can no longer play my numerous '.mov'- files.

Can anyone tell me how to put this right ?

Avoid QuickTime. Use the open-source VLC player which plays just about everything without needing extensions or extra codecs.

The issue isn't Mountain Lion - my .mov files are playing fine.  Have you tried rebooting?

What error message aare you receiving?  And is it happning with MULTIPLE .mov files or just one?
