You're a bit ahead of me, as since upgrading my magic pad won't perform any multi touch gestures. Thought I'd chime in only to let you know that you're not alone! Hopefully there will be a fix forthcoming shortly!

OK. I found the fix for the problem!
You need to reset the PRAM and SMC... I just did that and it completely fixed the problem.

I jumped the gun on saying this solved the problem. After being asleep overnight, when I woke up my iMac this morning, I no longer have muti touch gestures on my track pad. Looks like the problem still exists.

I had this problem but I found it was the settings that changed when mountain lion was installed.
Mountain lion changed my three finger gestures to four finger gestures when swiping between full screen apps.
I found there were extra settings. Apparently when installing mountain lion my three finger gestures were changed to four finger gestures.

I am having this problem as well. When I restart my computer the trackpad works with all gestures. But after it goes to sleep it will not work anymore. I can only use it to point and click. This has to be a mountain lion bug because this never happened once before I upgraded.

I found following solutions to work:
1. Go to Terminal and execute 'killall Dock' at prompt. This restarts the Dock and freeze is gone
2. Require a password to bring machine back from sleep or screen saver. For this, go to System Preferences->Security&Privacy->General
Now it will require password to come from sleep and you will have no freeze

I'm having this problem as well and am also finding that my internet is doing the same thing. It looks like it's working but web pages won't load and I can't check my mail. For both problems I have to reboot then it all works again.

I had this problem (trackpad gestures) when coming out of sleep, and an additional one where Sophos anti virus status disappeared from the menu bar.
I deleted the Sophos anti virus and re-installed the latest version which solved both the status in the menu bar and also the issue with my trackpad (and mouse) not working on advanced features after sleep.
So a third party app caused the issue in my case - which has been mentioned elsewhere.

So many solutions. Let me add mine. I found that my MacBook Pro's gestures froze after the computer went to sleep. I had to restart to fix it. Later I found that I had a iPhoto slideshow in the lower left hotcorner and that using it was a quick fix. I don't know if it is specifically the iPhoto slideshow or just any slideshow any hotcorner selection. But this works for me. For my MB Pro it is the quickest solution pending Apple's debugging. I hope it works for others.
