My wife and I both have Iphone 4s's and I am confused about how iMessage is supposed to be helpful in Mountain Lion.  If I am sitting at my desk and she texts me using iMessage and I have iMessage open on my MB why doesn't it show up?  Obviously I get the text on my phone, but if I am going to get my phone out to see who texted me (see that it was her) and then put the phone down just to write back on iMessage on my MB how is that helpful?  I want to be able to see when I get a text from a IOS user as a notification on my MB.  I am thoroughly annoyed that I have to start an iMessage conversation just to be able to see any additional texts from her.

That may have been a rant, I'll try to be simple.  I want the first text message to pop up on my MB if I have iMessage open.  Isn't that the whole point?

Thank you if you made it through my foolish rant and are willing to help!

    Hi,

Is your Phone set in Settings > Messages > Received At > Caller ID to your Apple ID ?
Is your wife sending the iMessage to the Apple ID ?

iMessages sent to the iPhone Number will not currently sync to the Apple ID the Messages app uses.

    HI,

At present the iPhone Number received iMessages will not sync to the Apple ID.

Taht is to say that iMessages sent to the iPhone Number will not sync.

This is temporary as it is reported this will come with iOS 6

It is unclear if the Messages app will be able to Send as if it is the iPhone number.

At present if you send from your Mac (or the iPhone from the Apple ID) means that some contacts learn your Apple ID/Email when you may not have wanted to give it out.

    Thanks for the points.
