Q: Airport Extreme won't connect and self-assigns an IP
Good evening.
A week ago my Airport Extreme base-station ceased to connect to the internet through my cable modem. I have a Motorolla cable modem supplied by Shaw Cable in British Columbia, Canada. When I plug the ethernet cable into my Macbook Pro there are no issues with the internet, but when I try to use the Airport Extreme the amber light flashes and the Extreme self-assigns (169.etc) an IP.
I have tried seemingly all permutations of unplugging the modem and the base-station, allowing them to reset, but to no avail.
I had a similar issue last year and it turned out the WAN port on the Extreme was bad. I suspected the same issue and I took the Airport Extreme to my local Apple dealer. They say that all is well with the base-station and that it only needed a recent software update which they completed. In the shop, the base-station seemed to work fine and showed a solid green light. They recommended I do a 'hard reset' and then reconfigure the base-station accordingly when I got home. This I did and still no luck. The base-station still is not working.
Any thoughts or advice on this matter would be sincerely appreciated.
Cheers,
John

Tesserax,
Asking for a replacement modem will be my next step. Thanks again for your assistance. I'll post a follow-up when I get a new modem.
Cheers, John
