I have served SL netrestore images off a Lion Server. But, you have to make sure that you make the SL image by running the Snow Leopard SIU on a SL computer. You can't use the Lion SIU to make the image. I think that is what you are saying you did, but just double checking.

I used 10.6.8 server tools to make my Snow Leopard netboot image and I used 10.7.4 to make my Lion netboot image. How did you get your Lion Server to serve Snow Leopard netboot image. I made it 10.6.8 system and then installed the netboot file on my Lion server yet it will not recognize the Snow Leopard image.

If, by won't recognize, you're saying that it doesn't appear in Server Admin that usually means that something is missing.
Does the folder have the ".nbi" extension?
Does it contain an NBImageInfo.plist?
Does it contain a NetBoot.dmg?
Compare the copy on the server to the one you built on the 10.6.8 client. Is something missing from the i386 folder? Or the x86_64 folder?

Also, when you say "doesn't recognize", do you mean when in Server Admin in the NetBoot section where you enable images it doesn't show up, or do you mean after enabling it and then netbooting a computer it doesn't appear as an option on the client?

Brian - I will go back and check to make sure that no files are missing. I would not have thought one was missing because I did a network transfer of the file but you never know.
Chicster - I meant that in Server Admin in the netboot section only one Mac OS X is enabled, which is my Lion image.
thank you for all the help.

Apologies if this seems overly simplistic, but just to be very sure: you say "only one Mac OS X is enabled". Enabling is an active process, you have to do it. I'm on vaca, so this is from memory, but I think in server admin, selecting netboot, then the far right icon which I think is settings gives you a sort of matrix of images. On that page is a list of tabs across the top - again I think it is labeled images and is the far right, but one of them gives a page where there is a check box for enabling images. you check that box and click save. you are able to see the image on that page, check the enable box, click save and yet it still is not enabled?
