Q: iTunes will not update!

I haven't updated my iTunes in some time but went to download and install the 10.6.3 update a few days ago and am unable to do so. I receive no error message; when opening iTunes, the usual dialog box appears saying that there is a new version of iTunes available. I click "Download iTunes", the box disappears, but nothing happens. Sometimes, I can see a progress bar that reads "Accessing iTunes Store" very briefly but it disappears as well and does not appear every time I try to download the update.

I have seen many others with the same problem but no solutions and I am hesitant to uninstall and reinstall iTunes as I have seen many others with the same problem completely unable to use iTunes after doing so.

Please help!

Seems to be quite frequent. I'm also having similar issues with the Apple Software Update engine, although for me specifically, it relates to iTunes. While iTunes itself is reporting its up to date, the Software Update engine doesn't think so. When I run the update, it can't find the .msi file needed to uninstall the previous version of iTunes. When I run the standalone installer from the site, it can't find the .msi file either. Even though the program is running on latest, its kind of odd, that both methods, at least for me, can't find an uninstaller. I can't even find it listed under my Programs and Features (iTunes).

    My system:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, running on an Acer Aspire 7552G laptop.

I was having this problem using FireFox and was able to get a good download and run by switching to Explorer to download the Itunes software.

I had tried in several browsers, same difficulties. I just find it odd, that the update tool would produce the same result, I think its just my copy had a bad install the last time it updated, so its missing the uninstaller. I'll have to find an uninstaller for it to fix it.

I tried everything. Then it hit me. I downloaded  latest iTunes onto USB drive and then copied to hard drive. Then I performed install! Worked first time. Voila!

I am having same problem with update.  So, now, as of August, still doesn't seem to be resolved.  This is a problem for me, as this update is the first thing suggested as a solution for another problem -- my Windows 7 64-bit machine recognizes my new Ipad, but ITunes does not.  Really irritating, as I can't get the two together.  Does anyone have any positive news on either front?  Thanks!

I have a Mac Book Air (2011) and iTunes 10.6.3 fails to update on me also. So this problems affects also Macs, not just windows.

I guess is an Apple screwup that they have failed to fix in months or don't care to fix.

Not a very good sign this lack of costumer care...

...add me to the list as well, with a twist.

It started by not being able to sign in to the Apple Store - it was telling me I had a user id/password issue, so I reset it.   5 times !  And nothing.

Rang Apple support and they told me to run an update, which I attempted to do - but like all ye, it doesn't actually execute.  I ran a fresh install of 10.6.3.25 and............no difference.

Then, I went on to www.appleid.com and I can login no problem, with the same id/pw.   And I can login and post, here.

But iTunes can't/won't - so it's definately an iTunes issue.

I've started 2 tickets on this, but so sign of a solution on this yet - has anyone else had any problem signing into the iTunes store ?

considering the problems people have been facing in the gui in Mountain Lion, it doesn't surprise me Apple is starting to lose touch with its customer base.

Similar problem for me.  Running Vista Home Premium French.  10.5.3.3 itunes version, The automatic checking of available update did not appear.  So, I tried to update through the Help menu, yesterday.  Itunes window saying there is a new version (10.6.3) appears, it asks if I want to update, of course, I say yes.  Nothing else afterwards.  I just bought my first iphone and wanted to be up to date in itunes before using the phone.  I hope this issue will be taken seriously.

Not only could I not update, I could not access the itunes store too. Apps certainly are not updating too. Tried to install an older version of itunes and of course, having difficulties with lib file. Used the 64 bit installer and still was unable to solve the problem of not being able to access itunes store. This is seriously a major flaw and not sure why it is taking so long to solve.

I have two computers with one operating  windows 7, 64-bit and one with windows 7, 32-bit and neither onw will fully load the itunes store or allow me to preview or purchas itunes music. I have the current itunes  10.6.3.25 on both machines. I have tried all the fixes and even had phone support with apple and no luck. This is how the itunes store window loades with the center section white.Do you think this is part of the issue this thread has been talking about?

Right, I'm having this exact same problem, sort of, I'm on Windos 7, I haven't updated itunes in a while, but I was froced to as I encountered this error when I plugged in my iPad today "error 0xE8000065" I read up how to get rid of the error and one way that I read about was to update to the new itunes, so I tried reinstalling it from the apple software update manager. Quicktime installed fine, but itunes said that an error had occured, so itunes stopped installing...so i tried the dowlnload file for the new itunes from apple's website, to no avail, the dialog box said "The installer encountered errors before itunes could be configured. Errors ocured during installation. Your system has not been modified"

Does anyone have any solutions or do we have to wait for apple to do something. This is very frustarating as I have pre-ordered some CDs that I would like to have on my ipod/ipad soon, hope this sorts out quickly, we're now in August and still, nothing.

I am also having problems updated an older version of iTunes.  I have disabled popup's and I have temp disabled antivirus.  I have even tried to download new version from apple website.  NOTHING is working.  I have done a web search and found the newest version of iTunes on another website.  Wondering what everyone is thinking about installing this version and the possibility of virus's?  It is crazy that Apple is not helping people with this problem since it seems EVERYONE on here at least is having this problem.  I am running Vista 32 bit.on a desktop.
