With reference to this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2332?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Is this still relevant to the unibody Macbook Pro (Late 2008) since the article was last modified in August 2008?

Thanks,

Adrian

    Yep, everything applies.

Running without a battery offers no benefits at all, even if it had no drawbacks either. The only reason to do it at all is if you don't *have* a battery.

Maybe to save some battery life?

Nope. Running without a battery won't do that.

So battery life degrades if you don't use it? So we can say that whatever you do, your battery will get poorer and poorer after 3 years (mine got swollen just now after about 3 years).

Yes, that's true. Batteries have finite lifespans. They deteriorate inescapably with age, overuse, underuse, and excessive heat.

This is not true, this issue remains a major problem, and the solution is a 150W power supply solution from Apple.

Apple MacBooks (Airs, Pros, etc.) are the only laptops on the market that require battery draw whether they're on wall power or not.

This is not acceptable as it results in year-long lifespans for a majority of Mac users, especially MBP users with dedicated graphics cards anda a desire to use their computer's capabilities.

Apple needs to rectify this issue yesterday and send out free batteries and upgraded power supplies to anyone who bought an MBP since 2005.

I'm sorry to bump this but this should really be everyone with a MacBook of any variety's main concern.

The knowledgebase issue in the first post will affect every single MBP ever made because the power supply is inadequate.

It's a matter of when. I lasted 14 months. How far into that are you? Do you use Chrome? An external display? Eeeeeek! Power hungry dedicated graphics!

I really hate to be chicken little like this, but this is a design flaw of the first order that needs an honest resolution. Heck, Apple makes the KB article seem like a FEATURE!

Take care of your battery and it will last a long time.

Ahh, so much easier said than done before the 2011 models came out with real power, it seems to have really taken off as a problem since then.

On the other hand, those are some spectacular stats for your battery. Which programs do you use most frequently, and for what purposes (generally speaking, of course!)? If you don't mind me asking.

Mine's already dead and I really only use Chrome, iTunes, and VLC an hour a day, maybe.

    Weird.
