Hi, have some problem with my modell, but what I need to know is what exactly the Apple MRI does, is it the same tests as the ADS OS, ADS EFI and AHT but only with a different GUI?.

The Problem is that my MBP is not able to handles stress and throttle at resonable low temperature. The Service can not find any problem and they run MRI. I have been able to run the ADS system myself and finds that the stresstest for the CPU only runs during 1 min, The fans does not even spin up and no temps are shown.

The service says that They are not able to get higher temps then 60 on my machine, but I can get up to 94 Celcius.

This is some printscreens from my tests and normal usage of my computer. I showd the service what I got and they just said Sorry that the computer is not meeting your exceptations. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/t37548sr7uhj4nn/nV9PxK7KHX#/

Thanks in advance for your tips

    What is your battery's status?

If you're having the same problem I am, MRI won't show any issues at all because your processor is performing as expected - with the huge caveat being that once the battery shows no charge, the processor is self-limited to about 30% of capacity (in my i7, this is about the case) forever, until a new battery is installed.

A higher capacity power supply to the wall would alleviate this problem, as would a better power management system that did not rely on constantly drawing off the battery to maintain adequate performance - but these are no where in sight at this time.

The battery have always been at near 100% full capacity everytime, and have a cycle count of 74.

Can you evolve your comment about the cpu? I do not want to misunderstand it

I have the stock (cheapest) MBP 15 inch early 2011. New Logicboard and twice new thermal grease av been replaced.

    Specifications:

Processor  2 GHz Intel Core i7

    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

    Storage  500GB HDD

Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 MB

    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)

In reference to the processor, this is what I was talking about as your potential cause: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2332

But it looks like your battery is OK, or at least reporting as such. Odd.

What programs are you generally running when you run into the temperature issues? Programs that depend on the dedicated graphics card or are you usually using the integrated Intel graphics?

Office stuff: safari and the Preview.app for pdfs, docs and pictures, something MS word+excel

    Editing: Lightroom, Seldom Photoshop.

When Flash is needed I use Chrome

"Office and editing" are not running at the same time

All apps mentioned gives High temps around 60-80 at light usage, 80-90+ at heavy usage

I am now running "yes > /dev/null/" in 8 terminals and on battery+dicrete GPU. temps 91 celcius, highest temp 95, then everyting just slowed down and cpu temp become 77 during couple of minutes.  Battery dead in 40 min. :X

I'm going to post this as more of an open question as I am not an expert on this aspect of the computer:

I know there is a method of forcing the computer to use only the integrated graphics card - probably a downloadable switching program easily Googled, but again I've never tried it - I would recommend forcing your MBP to use the integrated graphics for a day, and seeing if it is mistakenly switching to the unneeded (for the gist of the programs your mentioned) dedicated card.

This might just be more troubleshooting though - I know there are SMC resets and PRAM things that people will suggest as well.

Sorry I can't be of more guidance here.

I am using GFX cardstatus to force GPU change

SMC and PRAM reset have been done a couple of times by me and service

Before the Logicboard was changed, I saw some unneeded switches back and forth then but shell test it tomorrow
